4 letter words!!

Monday, April 11, 2011

I know many 4 letter words, some good and some bad. Some can be used in mixed company and some cannot. There is one 4-letter word that needs to be eliminated from my vocabulary. It can be used in mixed company but it is not an appropriate word to describe what I am trying to achieve.

The word: DIET

When I started this journey on 1//1/10 I used the 4-letter word DIET, a lot!! I have learned, through Spark, to replace this 4-letter word with a 9-letter word "LIFESTYLE". Applying this new word has been arduous and an ongoing battle. However I am getting the upper-hand and winning on the most part.

Today I ran across an article located in the SparkDiet Resource Center called "Mind Over Body". Over the past year and a quarter I have read the elements of this article, but this article has consolidated all the reference material into one location. There is a 10-step plan. The article listed 5 of the most common road-blocks that really hit home for me:

1. inadequate problem solving skills
2. unrealistic expectations
3. toxic quilt & negative self-talk
4. emotional eating
5. lack of intrinsic motivation

These are very difficult road-blocks to overcome. I have semi-abated the majority of them, however it is work in progress. Those 5 common problems need to be fully abated for my new LIFESTYLE to be successful.

Here is the article link:

Soooo......No more 4-letter word using D@&t...instead I am using "LIFESTYLE" emoticon

Great blog Chuck. I always thought the words "I'm on a diet" were strange. If you're on then at some point you're probably off (loose, gain). Lifestyle is so much more!

emoticon Transforming diet to LIFESTYLE takes practice. I've been doing better at it, and I'm so glad you had this 'AH HA' moment!

I got rid of that nasty word awhile ago. Diet is so freely used and is seen as something you either do or you don't do. Especially irritating is the thought or comment "can you eat that on YOUR DIET" Well yes I can since I am not on a diet.

Good for you Chuck! It took me a long time to make that transition and I also am still a work in progress. I just didn't want to be d**ting for the rest of my life and decided not to. Now, I just eat healthy, period!

Terrific blog, Chuck! Saw the first sentence and though "oh no..." LOL

With me, "Diet" means Die or Failure. It's the eating healthy all the time with is a great lifestyle change I can deal with. Enjoyed reading this. thanks!

Chuck - I saw the title and tried to guess the word - just glad it wasn't QUIT! Keep working my friend...I tell everyone I know that what I did to lose weight wasn't a diet (otherwise, I would have gained it back)...I changed my lifestyle. Had to - good for you man. Keep working it...

BTW - nice riding weather coming up.

I read this article and it's very true. When people ask me what diet I'm on I say I am not on a diet, I read a great book called The Spark and use the website everyday to stay on track. I eat healthy foods in the correct portions and get regular exercise.
Not too many people want to hear that they want miracles or pills.

Thanks for sharing this link - I believe I have more than the 5 obstacles you mentioned, but right now I don't feel I can take on a lot of major changes at one time . . . I think one at a time for now, & if I pass my exam before June 15th I can take on more. One thing I've learned about myself - trying to make all the changes at once leads me to failure!!
