Day 49 Of My 100 Days Challenge - My Mother's 78 Birthday Celebration!!!

Sunday, April 10, 2011

It was another lovely, bright, light blue, clear without a cloud, sky day in Puerto Rico. It was so bright and clear that the day was sparkling. The puertorrican pink oak trees had all bloom, and the pink little flowers make them look like bubble gum loli- pops in the middle of the green grass carpet. It was an awesome day to be outdoors and to celebrate my mommy's life.

We gather for lunch and an afternoon cake celebration. My mom received 5 of her six children, 5 in laws, 5 of her grandchildren and 3 of her great grandchildren, and 1 of her brothers. The pastry shop made her a beautiful butterfly cake, which wings were a rainbow, it was simply a gorgeous cake.

I had my chicken broth, with potato and squash, which I did myself today, and took it with me for the gathering. The other ones ate the food that was brought by every son and in law. We chat about almost anything and everything at the table, but it was a nice, joyful conversation that did not mess up with emotions.

After lunch, my mom brew coffee from my hometown which was brought by one of my brothers. Uhmmmmm, it smells heavenly. I had 2 cups, one, every time she brewed it. After coffee, we kept chatting until 3:30 pm that her brother came in singing the Happy Birthday song very cheerfully and happy. Then everyone took pictures with mom, mom and the kids, mom and the grandchildren and so forth, until my youngest brother shouted:"Enough of pictures, I want my cake and I want it now." So mom took the lead and start cutting the cake and I serve the ice cream. It was outrageous we were cheerfully taking and making fun of many things my mom said and did , but we were not hurting each other, nor messing up with comments. I was so very happy, that finally I was there, wasn't scared and was enjoying it.

I did have my one piece of cake and some ice cream on top, but a normal piece, just, a one time piece. I am very proud cause I made it safely, like a normal person, with out binging, or overeating, or going for seconds. I even have my chicken broth with potato and squash, again, for my supper, and did not need to eat cake as desert!!!!!! I stayed at my mom until 8:30 pm, until my Laura and my Sofia left and I helped mom with some clean-up. It was a really niece time, at home, with the family, not the dreaded time it used to be some years before. So I know for sure, God keeps working on my behalf and on behalf of this New Life Style I am learning.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with my physician for a check up on my tummy. I will go, cause it keeps upset and able to handle mostly liquids without feeling upset. I am concern that it might have to do with some diverticulosis they found some time ago; just to check it up and be in the safe side. I will also start tracking food again, no matter if I stay on liquids and fruits, it is part of my journey and to be in control of the process, so back to tools. I will start my water exercise again cause I am not running a fever anymore, so back to almost normal daily routine, tomorrow. Woo Hoo, fInAlLy!!!

Looking forward for tomorrow, that it will be 50% into challenge and discipline and to share with you all my sparklers, another day of achievements and successes. As always, thank for stoping by and share my joy, have a good night and a great emoticon

Carmen... thank you for describing the beautiful setting in which your mothers party took place... (I felt I was with you for a moment...) spring is only beginning to come to me in the state of Wisconsin... it was 80 degrees here on Sunday (unusual still for this time of year) it will be in the 50's tomorrow... I loved reading of the beauty and the flowering trees!

Your mother is the same age as mine! She turns 78 in May.. Going to a celebration is always a bit scary, **** will I eat the cake or won't I?**** You did so very well! It is especially wonderful that you brought your own food... it is hard to do this sometimes, because we feel as though people will look at us funny, but it really is the best way to stay within the boundaries of our programs isn't it?

Congratulations on your successes today!

Wow, you had a great day, and you stuck to your good food habits. One piece of cake for a birthday is definitely OK. You are just doing great.

It sounds like a great day!

I am wondering if perhaps you may have gluten intolerance (celiac disease). If so, then you would have to make some major changes in your diet. Well, we shall see what your doctor says.

Perfect! You ate sensibly but also enjoyed the celebration, not refusing to participate in cake and ice cream. I am proud of you.

Thank you for sharing Carmen. That was a wonderful descriptive, interesting and exciting blog! Well done! Send your mum a hug from me and wish her many happy returns. So glad you had such an enjoyable day. Back to the grindstone now your fever has gone. I hope you get on well at the Drs and that it is nothing too serious. Diverticulitis can be extremely painful, 2 of my friends had it. I am sure the diet you are on is helping. Well done for enjoying your cake and not over-indulging. Have a good week and enjoy your water aerobics & jogging.

Oh Carmen! I'm so happy you had such a wonderful day with your family--one that you can look back at and have it bring a smile to your face. I'm sure your Mom loved having all of you together also to celebrate her life with her. I hope your doctor can give you an idea of why you've been feeling so bad lately.
