May Have a New Running Partner

Saturday, April 09, 2011

We added a new member to our family today. She's 8 months old -- a German shepherd and labrador mix. She's really sweet, but a little skiddish. We are her third family, so she's been through a bit. With DH being home all day and our 1/2 acre fenced yard, I think we are the family she needs.

Wish I were good with the camera. She is a beautiful dog, especially when she runs in the sunlight. I'll try to get someone to take a picture so I can post it.

Natalie vacilated from being delighted to scared and back to delighted. I predict that they will get to know each other and be good friends within a week. My DD really likes the dog, so that helps. The dog knows her name, Kahlua. We toyed with changing the name, but I think the whole family has decided to keep it. There has been some talk about Madame Kahlua, but that may be over dramatic! She is definitely the biggest dog (50 pounds) I've ever had and has the most energy. She may enjoy running with me. We'll see.

We wondered if you were one of the lucky ones who got to adopt on Saturday. I'm so glad that you did! Kahlua is an unusual and beautiful name for a dog. She will made a wonderful running partner once you adjust to one another. Congratulations on your new family member!

Congrats on your new furry friend! Hope the running together works out... I know my Diamond used to spur me on, back in the day... at her top she weighed about 45 to 50 pounds, and it was pure muscle.

There's not a lot that's as satisfying as seeing a dog enjoying a good run.

It's fun to run with a dog - unless you leash it.

If you leash - be prepared to stop often, lol.

Good luck - I have always enjoyed Kahlua!

How great especially since your DH is home in the day. All the dogs we had were 55 - 65 lbs. and love that size. Have fun with her

What a lucky dog! Having a running partner that depends on you is a great motivator on those days that you feel like you might want to skip your workout - I know one look at my Tukuli's wagging tail as he sits by my running shoes is enough to get me out on the road!

Lucky dog, lucky family!

It sounds as though there's a good match! Congratulations on the new addition. Oh I luv Madame Kahlua. Could shortened it to Maddy Kahlua. Then eventually Maddy. You two will have lots of fun and special bonding. My canine pals enjoy the quality time we spend on our long distance walks. I hope she brings you as much joy as you will bring into her life.

Enjoy! emoticon

Bless you for taking in a dog who has been with 3 families. We got our Bison from a shelter and he was such a gift. I can't imagine another dog being a better fit for us. I understand her being so big could be a problem. I'm only 5ft 1 in tall and she would probably intimide me. I hope all goes well with her. Love the name by the way. Have a fun run with her!

Sounds perfect! I know Kahlua will be a wonderful dog and I guarentee you will be running or walking a LOT more if you make her your partner and she will love it!

    Hi Marsha
Your blog just lit up with the excitement. It is so nice that you were able to get this dog. It looks like a love affair for the whole family including Kahlua.
It would be a lot of fun , if she becomes a running partner. You have to get someone to take the picture so you can post it.

Thanks for sharing

You sound like the perfect family for Kahlua -- and how lovely if she turns out to enjoy running with you!!

Our Charlie (golden retriever) is 84 pounds, a big golden, but very sweet and gentle. He has a half acre fenced yard too and loves it -- also loves roller blading with our son!!
