Filing 'til ya drop!!

Tuesday, April 05, 2011

Hey girlies... I just realized that I don't think that I'm tracking my calories burned very well....

With my new position - especially now that it's the end of the year and graduation/sign out time - I am quite physical for a good 3 hrs of the day. For this time, I am constantly filing medical charts - this consists of carrying a good 5 lbs of them in my arms, walking continuously back and forth throughout the room, pulling handfuls of charts, etc, etc. I actually work up a bit of a sweat! I would normally track 3-4 hours of this as about 200 calories, but when I look at online calorie counters, they are telling me that I am burning just over 200 calories per hour!!

No wonder I'm hungry so much lately... I eat around 1500 calories a day... I've apparently lost 2 lbs over the past month... what would you folks track 3-4 hrs of filing/light lifting? The walking workout tracks over 1200 calories burned in 3 hrs!! I don't believe that!! However, what I do at work is about the same, if not more so, intense then the Leslie Sansone walking workout.

Lemme know what you think! :))

A heart-rate monitor would give you a good indication on how many calories you burned during the run of your day (pun intended). I haven't tried one yet, but others have and they say it's a lot closer to the exertion level they experience.

Thanks hun... I've actually done that :)) What I wanted to know is if you guys thought that this was accurate... to burn that many calories running around like a mad woman with charts in her arms... lol!! I never clock my calories burned the way it says... I knock a few hundred off and then record it cuz I just don't believe some of the numbers I get - like when I do 45 minutes of Turbojam, I'll get this insane amount of calories burned, but I'll just put between 200-300 calories instead. :))

Honestly, I would create a new entry in the Fitness Tracker, like you can do for the Nutrition Tracker. On the Search page of the Add Cardio section, there's a button for "Manually Enter Calories Burned". When you click that button, another window opens, and one of the boxes is "Add this Exercise to My Favorites". Type in the Activity Description, like "Filing at Work" but include the estimated calories either by minute or by hour in the description. It would look like "Filing at Work (200 cals/hr)". Then when you come to fill in your cardio minutes, you can calculate it quite easily. I did this a while back for ... um.... "waggly eyebrow activities"... since it's usually a lot more than 10 minutes worth of "activity". :-D Aside from that, there are a couple of entries under the "Other Activities" drop-down menu in the Browse section that might fit. Personally, I think "Heavy Cleaning" falls closer to what you're doing than most of the activities listed.

Do you get to at least wear sneakers while you work?? :-D
