The secret to actually being excited for working out? New Ipod Shuffle music. Nothing gets me more amped for an otherwise boring stint at the gym then having a new song to look forward to during my routine.
On the reverse of that, nothing is more demotivating then when I actually get to the gym and my Ipod won't turn on. (The battery life is more fruit fly then sea turtle these days). I have a fitness center at my office that I prefer to use then the gym I actually joined near my home, with it's small, dark, cramped workout rooms that have earned it the moniker "The Dungeon." Having no Ipod was enough to send me back to the Dungeon instead so I could make a brief stop to charge it up. This was a dangerous move, as once I get home, I'm usually not inclined to go back out, but I really wanted to get my Ipod charged and hear my new songs. Of course, the Dungeon was more crowded then usual last night, and I couldn't get on any machines. Undeterred, I did go for a walk instead, but I never quite feel like I'm getting enough done.
Lesson learned? Bring my Ipod Charger with me to work. Or perhaps buy a new Ipod.
*I also find new brands of toothpaste motivating. All different types of whiteners, some come in fun colors, others have fresh breath strips - just love opening a new tube! Who's with me?
