Day #2 for sculling (rowing) a single. After Thursdays misadventure and capsizing into the waters of the Amstel, the second day went much better. I was terrified, almost paralyzed with fear at times, but I got out there, lied to the instructor and reassured him (and myself) that I was "okay", and got on with the business of facing my fears and learning to row that boat all by myself. I did it! I went a distance up the river, back down, did some turns and even managed to maneuver under a bridge twice! The hour went by so quickly. It was so odd not having anyone rowing behind me, no extra oars in my peripheral vision, nobody else to rely on to steady the boat or correct it if I made a bad stroke. Just me. I was shaking, cold, heart was racing but I absolutely loved it. And I'll be out there again on Thursday.
