I feel like March has a been a month of beginnings, and I'm looking forward to continuing some good actions into April and seeing what results it may bring.
I've known for some time now that while I could certainly be eating less calories in a day, my biggest problem is lack of movement. I have an office job and sit in front of a computer all day. I started using a pedometer in January, and boy, how eye opening to how sedentary my lifestyle can be with the nature of my job. Kind of sad when the most exercise I was getting in a week was when I traveled and walked through the airport! So, I've been steadily trying to get in steps by the little things (parking further away, walking around the entire building to get to the bathroom, getting home in time to walk the dogs with my husband at night). I've also started training for SP's 5K which I am really excited about - it's felt good. I was very active in Track and Basketball in high school, but now in my 40's, find that my knees are shot - didn't think I could handle running. But taking it slow with the SP 5K plan, it's worked, felt great, and been a confidence builder.
Also by tracking my steps on the pedometer, I've been able to trend my activities over days of the week. I found that I was the least likely to move on Mondays. So I made it a "rule" in March that I would always get in a good workout on Monday - with the theory that if I "fixed" the lowest day, I'd reap some rewards. Now Monday is my highest activity day and Tuesday the lowest - so in April, I'll focus on Tuesday.
All of this is in an effort to primarily get moving more. My husband is a wonderful cook and it is extremely rare for me to eat any junk food. I have no craving for chips, sweets, etc. We eat healthy, I am probably eating bigger portions than necessary - plus my husband likes to butter vegetables when steaming, etc. Generally speaking, I think the food will be easier to get under control if I can get my body moving.
