Ultimate challenge: Learn to COOK

Sunday, April 03, 2011

Hi all

In the past 7 months I have proven to me that I could do something I have never THOUGHT I could!

1. Lose weight and keep it off or at least BE HAPPY with where I am!
Not care about the scale!

wk 1, 170 vs wk 27, 155 ( BUT NOW back to 160 @ wk 29)

2. I have Proved that I can not only run a 5k but a half in 7 month

3. I have proved that I CAN get up in the morning and LOOK decent!
My mom will JUMP out of her grave! I swear! I put this pic on my FB ;p

My real friend are MORE shock from this than my weight loss!
I guess I WAS REAL FRUMPY bef!

4. I have proved that I CAN put together decent clothing and not look like I rolled out of bed.
Last week

This week

Only difference is eyebrow and make up. same shirt (orange and blue same)

5. ULTIMATE CHALLENGE!!! I really think will make my weight drop

what does this mean?

1. Plan ahead
2. Cook Healthy
3. Put effort into it!

1. I can't blame I have no control over what I eat!
so and so cooks soooo salty! therefore I am bloating

I get a lot of sympathy food ;p LOL cause I really can't cook!

ppl thought I was kidding, hahahha

2. I have control over what I put in my mouth!

3. There will be something to eat so I don't go for "quickies"

on on on!

I don't know if I should put pics of my food! So you are warned, food blogs may be coming! appetizing or NOT! lol

my poor family ;p

Here is to SPARKRECIPE ;p

spark on!

BTW!!! my hubby is 162! and I am 161 ;(

He dropped 5 lbs this week on p90x
I was 180 and he 165!

P90x got me to 155, while he jumped to 170?
2 months in...something is happening
and my 2wk spring break got me back to 160 (water retention)

I don't want to loose my place as lightest!
Getting my butt in gear!

Starting back on HM training! my next one is 4 wks away!!!

Don't worry, you can cook if you try. All it takes is following directions.

In no time, you will find that you are making your own recipes and sharing them on sparkrecipes! NO doubt.

Especially if you go at it with the same enthusiasm as you have your fitness.

Spark on and enjoy!

Cooking isn't something I love to do, but I enjoy it more now than I ever did before. Why? Because SP has all these AMAZING, HEALTHY, EASY RECIPES that even my kids will eat! Seriously. SP is responsible for a healthier me AND for making me realize I CAN cook well, even if I don't always enjoy it :)

Even my husband commented last week that I'm becoming "quite the little chef"! Trust me, that's a huge deal, 'cause he knows I used to despise making dinner (and he's a great cook)! And my (picky-eater) kids tell me they love all the new stuff I'm coming up with - big bonus points for Mama!

If I can do it, so can you! SPARK ON my friend!

You have done such a great job! I have to say that I LOVE to cook! It's a lot of fun and I find it really relaxing... My favorite part is getting to feed other people! Once you get the basics down, the rest becomes really easy - so give yourself time to learn the basics and then just have fun!

Check out my menu picture blog series... I have shared links to my recipes which I shared on SparkRecipes - try them out and rate them...

I just recently started cooking and it's easier than you think! Sure it's still time consuming (my mom whips up a meal in 30 minutes and I take forever) but I'm getting there! You can find some great recipes here on Spark and it makes it so much easier to track! Can't wait to see what you come up with! emoticon

You have made wondeful progress in the last 7 mos, so i am sure this new cooking journey will be successful for you as well. I find cooking relaxing and fun...Usually i try to follow a new recipe at least 1 or 2 times until i am comfortable with it, then i try to put my own twist on it. I have tried a few of the sparkrecipes they have been pretty good so far. I also love foodnetwork, get lots of great ideas there. Enjoy...have fun with it, you can do it. emoticon

Lol, this is a good blog. Cooking is great for all of the reasons that you stated. And yes, you'll be suprised at how less you'll bloat when you monitor what you put in your own food. I love cooking with herbs, spices, and marinades (I want to make my own, but look for low sodium options). It makes all the difference and my husband loves my food. Have fun with it!

I am planning to buy a couple cook books soon (looking at different ones now) I'd like to have a "SP Cookbook" and then perhaps a "Vegitarian Cookbook" and finally a really good "Raw Cookbook"

Cooking is easy. Just do what the recipe says. If the result isn't perfect, figure out the problem and tweak it next time. Start with crockpot meals. You can't go wrong!

Oh I am also cooking challenged. I find myself making the same things over and over again, because I know the family will eat it. Maybe I should look up some of the recipes on Spark it can't be that hard. Once again you have inspired me to do something new.

I was in the boat as you not knowing how to cook. I had two choices eat the frozen, processed, fast food junk my family does or learn to cook. I took option two. My secret weapon....Hungry Girl. Her cookbooks, website, and recipes are so easy and delicious giving real food (pancakes, tacos, spaghetti, desserts, etc.) that are all healthy and pretty easy. The other day I made ranch bacon chicken with a side of rice and mixed vegetable the entire meal was less that 5oo calories and I was so full. You should check her out.

Like everything else you've tackled, I bet you'll do great with the cooking. I never used to cook but it is easier with practice. When I started I had to follow a recipe exactly but now I can alter it with substitutes and it still comes out great. Good luck and I look forward to some food blogs!

I think learning how to cook will be good for you! Like you said you will have more control as to what is going into your body! As you learn you can change things up... make it your own! Food can be fun, it doesn't have to be the bad guy... leave that to Mr. Scale! I plan my week in dinners and shop each week for what I am making that week. I even ask my family what they would like to try new that week and give them a few options to pick from! Sparkrecipes is your friend!!!

I thought you knew how to cook for some reason. But you've done excellent in every aspect. Food matters so much more in weight loss, you'll definitely see a difference! but if you cook healthy, Hubby will reap the benefits too! But i hope he doesn't get too much lighter or else he might be skin and bones!

Good luck with cooking!!! i'm lazy at cooking, plus with hubby's unpredictable schedule, i hate cooking and him coming home super late. I should get back on that though. For me, i eat really good on weekdays bfast-lunch and eat what i want for dinner. Usually it's nothing terrible, but it's not as healthy as my bfast or lunch. Anyways...looking fwd to the food blogs! :)
