One Year!

Saturday, April 02, 2011

One year ago today I decided to get back in shape and lose the baby weight for good. I am proud say that over the last year I have lost 24 lbs (1 pound away from my goal weight) and I went from a size 6/8 to a 2/4. I realize 24 lbs in a year isn't exactly record breaking weight loss but I did it the healthy way and at 5'1" 24 lbs makes a HUGE difference. The best about losing weight is how good I look and feel about myself.

I have also had so many people ask me how I did it and I love telling them diet and exercise... some look in awe like they were really hoping I had found the magic pill. I have had others ask me to help them on their weight loss journey and then I am the one in awe. Who me? I am nobody special, no expert, no professional, I just made my mind up one day and stuck to it. Then I realized that's just it. You have to want to lose weight and you have to want to be healthy. Until you decide weight loss is what you truly want you will not succeed. I have had many days that I wanted to quit and I did not make healthy choices but I got right back on track.

Losing with Spark People actually became so easy that I exceeded my original goal of 15 lbs! I am the weight I always wanted to be, I have lost those last 5 pounds (well last 4) and I am now enjoying "bad food" but in moderation. Spark People kept me accountable and I didn't want to let myself down. I logged in daily and collected my points like there was a huge prize to win. My husband even told me at one point I had become obsessed with Spark People but it was working, I was losing weight. How could I not be obsessed? Even though my points are virtual I did win a huge prize; I won my health and happiness and there's not a price tag for that.
