How many calories!!!!!!

Friday, April 01, 2011

Okay this is my first Blog ever (like in my life), so here goes.......
I've been doing well with staying in my allotted calories and tracking all my food. What I have been noticing now that I track everything is that holy smokes there are a lot of very fattening foods out there! All this time I thought I ate a relatively healthy diet (besides the night binges of ice cream and cookies). I figured to lose weight all I needed to do was cut out those binges and it would change so much and be easy to keep within the allotted calories. I feel like everything I put in my mouth is 300 calories... Case in point, I went to Costco after work and got a chicken Caesar salad at the take out counter. I thought oh that's a great choice over the pizza. I went home ate my salad and then was tracking the food. I wasn't too sure what the dressing was so I figured I would just google the nutrition facts. Ohhhh man, the salad is like 680 cal and 40 grm of fat! for salad that's crazy! granted I only used about 1/2 the dressing but still. The pizza was like 700 cal too. The frozen yogurt was actually the least caloric at 360. Go figure. I've just been noticing a lot of foods I would think were fine were actually not so great. When I think back to the fact that I would eat at least 2 slices of pizza, no wonder I never got thinner. It just goes to show you have to read all the labels and even then they are tricky. Well I have my guard up now and I'm going to get the most for my calories instead of throwing them away... emoticon

That amazed me too when I first started tracking. I tracked awhile before I started changing my eating. Wow! What an eye opener that was. The other day I had over 400 calories in sweet tea for lunch. Decided, even though I love sweet tea, it just isn't worth it to me. Good first blog post! Good luck on your journey! emoticon

LOL ... I call these moments "Learning experiences". I haven't been doing Spark people for that long so I totally am still getting those SURPRISE moments! Good job checking it out and making a better plan for next time! Now you will check off the Casear Salad and the pizza in lieu of something lower calorie. I've been amazed that there are tons of yummy things to eat - it's about progress, not perfection! Nice job doing your research! Best of luck on the rest of your journey! emoticon

That's one of the great benefits out of tracking everything. You learn more about what you eat and can come up with intelligent ways to substitute with great food that's better for you (and your diet).

Congratulations on your discovery!
