I have sooo jumped on the clean eating wagon!

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

I spent a lot of the day looking at recipes on here to find lots of clean eating stuff to make. I made banana bread, it was good but hubby complained it was too dry.
We're still in the process of using up all the junk food, I have it all planned out and it should be gone by next week Monday or Tuesday. I haven't been eating the junk, but they are finishing it up. For dinner they had hamburger helper. My daughter was asking where the rolls were. (Normally when I was eating crap, we would always have hamburger helper with Pillsbury crescent rolls.) So I told her, "we're not eating stuff like that anymore." She says, "why?" I said, "it's not healthy" and she's like, "well, hamburger helper isn't healthy is it?"
I have really gotten these kids confused. I've got to stop sending them mixed messages. I don't know how many times I've said we are done eating junk and we're gonna eat healthy, only to get lazy and buy more junk.
I went online and ordered a food processor and a waffle maker. (My kids live on Eggo waffles right now.)
So, after Zumba tonite I went to the grocery store to stock up on more healthy stuff. OMG- I was only picking up a few things and I was there over an hour and a half. I was reading so many labels..... I'm exhausted. But I am excited to cook healthy food for my family! No more fat-filled, sugar laden crescent rolls with gobs of nasty hydrogenated oil on them next to greasy, powdered, sodium cheese product on old nutrient-less noodles! MMMM... sounds good doesn't it?

We have never called it clean-eating- but my family has been doing it for years and it really makes us feel good about what we eat. Eventually you don't have to look at labels as much because you have found your core grocery list of items. Great job!!

P.S. I think it's adorable that your daughter pointed out that hamburger helper wasn't healthy- I can't imagine what it will feel like when my 2 year old can call me out :)

That is GREAT! I have been trying to do the same thing and the kids are not liking me very much lol.I think it is hard for me with the kids wanting other things I am trying not to eat so we also are eliminating what is left of the "junk". I allready started my garden seedlings inside and the kids helped:)

Good job! It does take a little extra to figure out what fits in to what you want to put in your body and you kids but it does get easier! Keep up the great work!

I know exactly where your coming from.....my husband and I decided to change our eating habits and switch to all organic foods. I think the key to doing this is changing where you shop. We only shop at Whole Foods now. If you look in our pantry now you will only see a couple boxes of processed foods but mostly canned vegetables. We used to eat at least two packages of crescent rolls a week(LOL)and I can honestly say I haven't even missed them that much. If we start craving something "not healthy" I just try to make it homemade.
