Secrets to Losing Weight

I hadnít posted anything in quite a while. I decided to do so today. With nice weather approaching, people are interested in working on getting their bodies right and many people have asked me the secrets to losing weight. So, I decided to post something here in hopes that it might inspire people who read it. Here are my top three ďSecrets to Losing WeightĒ which can work for anybody.

The first secret is, find a reason to lose weight, something so strong and powerful that nobody and nothing will stop you or get in your way. The reason can be different for everybody. For some people, a health scare does it. For others, the birth of a niece or a grandchild is the motivation. But find something to get you and keep you on track.

Second, focus on the long term. Youíll need to make complete lifestyle changes, incorporating things into your routine that you can maintain for the rest of your life. There are dozens of programs out there from Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Diet-to-Go, Jillian Michaels, Nutrisystem, and a whole bunch of others. If you canít stay on it once you reach your target weight, then youíll probably be right back in the same place in need of losing weight again. I personally prefer sensible eating and making reasonable/prudent food choices over those formal programs. But many people need the structure of these type of formal programs. Either approach is fine. But, whatever you prefer to do, try to work a plan that you know youíll be able to follow long after you get to where you want to be.

Lastly, find a network/support system. Our friends and family can be great support. But if youíve tried unsuccessfully to lose weight over the years (and even if you haven't been trying for a long time), friends and family can also be quite discouraging and not very supportive. Donít let them deter you with negativity. It's YOUR life, not theirs. Thatís why I love Sparkpeople.com. But more than that, Sparkpeople has a number of helpful online resources, articles, guides, and other tools to keep focused and help motivate you. These tips are simple but I think an essential part to any weight loss strategy. Good luck and lets get sparking!

    Great blog! And you're right, these tips will work for anyone. I like that you emphasize that you have to make lifestyle changes, not just go on a *diet*. You really have to change your whole mindset about food, nutrition, exercise, etc., not just make temporary changes to see results. It's really about your overall health.

I agree about the food diets I don't use those structures like weight watchers or Jenny Craig either. I have learned better thru Spark nutrition labels and portion sizes. making good food choices.

A helpful tool thru Spark is the dining out guide I often review it before going out before I order.

I have found so much useful information thru this website better than any other, more info I think than my family Dr has given to me.

Also I have found so much more support thru Spark friends my family and friends are not good supporters they always give me bad food and tell me to exercise more the next day. Or give me advice on what exercises to do that they don't do themselves!
