lessons I'm learning on SP (sometimes over and over again)

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

I thought it would be useful to blog about some of the lessons I'm learning on SP to see my progress/downfalls/victories etc. I've always been a pretty healthy eater (with the exeption of sugar) but after joining SP and utilizing all the useful tools I've made progress not only in the things I eat but the way I think and interact with food. In no particular order here are some of the lessons:

-failing to plan = planning to fail
-using the nutrition tracker keeps me accountable for every bite that goes into my mouth, it definitely makes me think twice
-SP friends rock! They keep you accountable, help you stay motivated, understand what you're going through and are there to cheer you on :)
-I love the message boards--it helps me stay consistent, provides me with new ideas and stay connected
-read read read read, the more information you acquire the more equipped you are to gain/maintain a healthy lifestyle
-everything in moderation
-read labels
-water, sleep, and exercise are just as important as eating healthy when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle
-eating healthy is actually fun
-small consistent changes = big success
-mindful eating helps prevent overeating and stop potential binges in their tracks
-it's a lifestyle (ongoing) NOT a diet (temporary)
-treat yourself occasionally with non food indulgences--sleeping in a little extra, buying a health magazine or a new pair of yoga pants
-reward behavior not just the number on the scale

The list goes on but these are just a few useful lessons I've learned so far and am forever greatful to SP!
