I Am a Runner!

Sunday, March 27, 2011

It is true! I found it on the web site. I came in third in my age group in my 5K race. I don't know that I want that fact to change anything and yet I am unabashedly an award junkie. Yesterday, I bought two running books. This morning I tried a 4 minute run/1 minute walk workout for 40 minutes after a 5 minute walking warm up. I included a couple speed intervals. It felt good. Think I want to keep running and if I can win a few awards along the way, all to the good. But my real goal is health and my secondary goal is weight maintenance.

Did I mention weight? Yesterday at Weight Watchers I had my lowest weigh in there ever at 125.6. I am truly trying to maintain, but if I drop another pound or two it would not matter. I am feeling strong and healthy. And I now know I am a runner!

    HI Marsha
Congratulations on your finish and award. I think it is really great when we receive a reward or acknowledgement of a job well done. So, you officially consider yourself a runner, that is so good. I know that you will be good at it and will see your times get better. I think I read a few weeks ago about the "oldest" woman to compete in a marathon was only 94. You are so young.
Congratulations on your WW weigh in. You have done a awesome job on yourself.

Thanks for sharing

Awards are proven to change behavior. Liking awards just marks you out as a wise and practical woman!

You deserve this! Three cheers! What fun!

Your overall health success proves you are good at making choices over and over, long-term, when the ordinary course of things is that no recognition or external reinforcement comes to you. So go ahead and revel in it, gloat a while, dance a jig, enjoy your award!

There is nothing wrong with admitting that we all like validation for our hard work. Sometimes it's internal, sometimes external - this week your validation came in the form of a 3rd place award! Hooray for you!!!!!!!
