Feel Good Moment

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

I know I haven't lost a huge amount of weight but I have been trying to eat healthy and exercise this past year. I have lost 20 lbs. since I started sparkpeople and I think I have toned up around my stomach and butt area. emoticon and I've gone down a size. No one has commented on any changes in the past year and a half except for a good friend of mine, not family or even other friends. Now, I'm not the type of person that needs constant stroking or alot of compliments, but when you are trying to work on improving yourself its always nice to get some positive feedback here and there! Well, yesterday I bumped into an old friend who I haven't seen probably in about 8 years. She kept looking at me and saying how good I looked. That encounter made my day emoticon It made me feel really good and gave me some motivation. Why is it that woman in general can't compliment one another. I'm not talking about here, we are all supportive of one another, but during the day to day life. People don't realize how much it could make a difference in what you are doing. I don't know if it is envy or what but its sad that people can't be happy for each other. emoticon

It's so great when other people notice your hard work, isn't it?? I think you've done a great job, and the fact that you've lost 20 pounds and KEPT THEM OFF is huge!!

The power of positivity goes a long way and many people don't realize this. When you feel good about yourself, you radiate that good mood to others. I completely agree, we should all make the effort to support & encourage each other in our daily lives. Take a moment to celebrate & congratulate yourself Kathi. Making any sort of lifestyle change is a challenge and overcoming any small hurdle is something to be proud of!! emoticon emoticon

I know it's hard. I think, though, that when the changes come slowly, the people who see us all the time don't really notice the changes. Especially when we are still wearing clothes that are now too big for us. There is a man who comes into our office once a week, and on one of his visits a couple months ago he announced that he had lost 30 pounds. He looks fabulous and was just beaming. I have to admit though, that I hadn't noticed until he told me and I really looked at him. I am really glad he told me and I shared that news with others in our office. It made me feel good to see someone else working to improve their health.

On the other hand, my boss lost weight quickly (I don't know how much) and it was very evident. I don't advocate fast weight loss at all. I'm just saying that we see what we expect to see until something changes our perspective.

The main thing though is that you're eating healthy and exercising. The weight loss will come, and so will the complements. I'm glad you got some encouragement from a friend. It sounds like you're doing great! emoticon
