Complications

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Just yesterday I wrote about how well my DIL did after her double mastectomy. But she called me last night to say she had to go to the emergency room yesterday with severe pain in her leg. In spite of wearing heavy stretch hosing put on her legs in the hospital after her surgery, she had a blood clot in one leg.

The doc put her on Coumadin but also says she must have two shots a day into her stomach to get the blood thinner into her faster while the drug gets into her system. My son will be giving her those shots. She's confined to bed with her leg always propped up higher than her heart for the next week. The drains from her surgery had to be taken out early in the ER because of this situation.

She was very scared. Her mom drove her to the ER and my son met her there from work. I'm very worried about her, such a wonderful mom and wife and DIL. She's 41 and very healthy otherwise, so the doctors say this is a fluke that usually only happens to older people and those in bad health.

So, for the first time, I'm asking you to keep my DIL in your prayers for a safe and speedy recovery.

Thank you,

Karen
