Spring has Sprung: Running While Chunky (KARVY09 inspired)

emoticon today the sun was shining !

emoticon it's the 1st official day of Spring !

emoticon today was the day I tested out my new Garmin Forerunner 405CX (birthday gift from hubby, which he got at an awesome price bidding on EBAY).

emoticon originally planned to do a 5k but it was nice to be running outside, never mind the ice, snowcone type of snow still on the bikepaths. I continued on.....

While running I passed a woman and an elite runner (you know the ironman types) both smiled and waved. I was pumped so I continued on thinking how AMAZING women have supported me and encouraged me that we can do it.....Running While Chunky (KARVY09 inspired) & so many others.

emoticon since I had surpassed my turnaround point, while coming back I crossed again the same women and the same elite runner (going to myself YEAH I am running back also, MOUAH).

Saving the best part for last....I am about 1K from my end point. Being on the bikepath as mentioned there is still parts of covered by snow. Oncoming was there lady with her dog, so I stayed on the left, left foot in the snowcone slush and the right foot on the pavement. I sprinted pass her all of sudden I see on my left running beside me an another elite runner with a huge smile, he stayed at the same pace as me for about 15 seconds and giving me a thumbs-up !

I was SO frigging proud of myself, my 1st Spring run getting a thumbs-up by this stranger, by the time I finished I could not see him anymore he was very far away *lol*. I will remember him that's for sure. My Garmin registered I ran 6.3K in 51:03 minutes and I walked twice in the ice and snow. On my way back I did run on the frozen grass.

So you can Run While Chunky.....I do have a negative note, my new Garmin I am SO NOT technically inclined. I need to take a introduction 101 Garmin course.

AWESOME GIRL!!! I had a similar experience on my first long run this season. The thumbs up thing. You'll get the hang of the Garmin. It took me about 2 weeks to get use to my heart rate monitor and it was VERY frusterating, but now I don't have to guess how many calories I've burned. I KNOW. You are the bomb Josee! Have a great weekend and much love to you! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I love that feeling of community we have when we run into people sharing the same sport. The first time I skated the canal (Rideau Centre to Dow's Lake and back), I had the same thing happen, someone skated with me all the way from Dow's Lake to the Rideau Centre. It gives you a little boost to get that external confirmation, doesn't it?

Way to go on surpassing your 5K, by the way!

This is an amazing post!! Way to go! You're a machine!

As for the garmin, spend an evening curled up and relaxed and read over the manual slowly. If you still have questions, write them as you go and then go to the ultimate ressource to answer them: the net.
You should be a pro afterwards!!!

yay to outside spring running!!!! Sounds like you had a good time. I really love it too! I always smile at every single person I see when I'm running because you never know who needs that extra motivation at that point.
