A good reason to take pictures

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Today someone snapped a photo of me - so I went out and looked at my pictures from before. Then I made the comparison to about a year ago to today.

Wow! I have to say that when you are IN your body you don't see the changes. Oh, there are changes that eventually show and clothes that fit differently. However the impact isn't staring you right in your face.

I've been down on myself for a while because the scales haven't been moving and I've just felt like things aren't going anywhere. Today's picture helped me a LOT! I wasn't going to give up but I was beginning to wonder if anything was ever going to change again. Now I am refreshed and realize just how I'm changing for the better.

So - if you haven't - I suggest that you get that picture taken. It may not be something you want to face, but realize it IS just the container that holds you. It doesn't define you because YOU do that. Having that reminder of who you used to be is probably the best thing that you could ever have. If you have one, get an updated one and put them side by side. You will love yourself even more.

This doesn't happen over night. It took years to get here, it's going to take a while to make the change. No matter what though, you need to keep that mantra running in your head "Don't Give UP!"

That's great advice. When I'm feeling stuck I sometimes pull out my fat pants just to remind myself how much progress I've made. Keep it up!

    So true, Ed.

I have been stuck for about 6 months...but clothes fit better, I feel more energetic, & from a pic taken in January...I definitely look better. Things I didn't notice until the picture...I just knew that the scales were stuck. It really does give you a boost.

I've been feeling the same way lately and I went back to look at my old pictures today too!!! You're right, there is a change and you don't really see it when your in your own body, but being able to see it from the outside really helps!!!

I hope you post a comparison :) You're amazing and awesome- but you're right that we have a hard time seeing the change unless we have the visuals.

When I look at the "before" picture from last Sept. when I was my heaviest, I am ashamed and embarrassed. When I've lost 18 more pounds I'll post that one and a current one because, like you said, we don't always appreciated our changes even though clothes are looser and people see the difference. Hang in there and keep making your best effort every day to lose that next pound. emoticon -- Lou

I love how you put this....
"It may not be something you want to face, but realize it IS just the container that holds you. It doesn't define you because YOU do that."

You're so absolutely right! I do have before and during pictures - I'm not at my 'after' yet, but one day I will be. I even have a before and during picture up on my cube wall at work. I notice people glance at my pictures.. then take a second look!

Whatever it takes.. yes.. Don't Give UP!
