I recruited my spaniel Jess to accompany me on my walks. She has gained a little too much this past year herself! She has made an evening walk in the milder Minnesota weather a lot of fun and something to look forward to. After a winter in the house, she is ready to go! Everyday when I get done with supper, she runs to the door and is ready to leave. I could hardly stay home and disappoint her!
The first day, we went out a country road behind our house. It is a mile out to the next farm and a mile back. It was a sunny evening. The next evening, it was dark, so we drove to the nearest town and walked through the streets. We turned a corner and ran into 8-10 deer in the middle of the street! Neither Jess nor I knew what to make of it. A car's headlights finally chased them off.
Last night was later, so we again went into town. I turned the corner where the deer were and there were none that evening. However, there must have been bunnies on every driveway. A hunting dog and bunnies do not really mix well.
It has been quite the daily adventure, but really, really worth it. I sleep better and feel like I am not going to miss spring coming in. I had thought about walking at the community center, but this is far more interesting! Exercising both ends of the leash will help me and my little friend.
