Surgery is out of the way...

Friday, March 11, 2011

I came home early yesterday afternoon after maybe 30 hours in the hospital. Once i was in my own room I was doing okay. I didn't mind the hospital stay but i didn't like the anesthesia and breathing tube in my throat and lungs. I woke up after surgery to find the breathing tube still in my throat and freaked out because no air was coming out just the pipe was there. I pulled it out myself after coughing bad. I was also clawing the anestheoloist. when I learned the surgery was over i calmed down but was left with guck in my throuat and a bad cough that hurt my whole body when i coughed. Basically the nursing staff was excellent and very helpful to me.

Day of surgery i was sipping 1 oz. cups of water every 15 minutes. had protein shake and a taste of tomatoe soup. Now I am drinking or sipping Protein supplements, water, broths, strained cream soups with no clumps, jello and sugar free popsicle.

efore surgery my diabetes was way out of wack. Just before surgery ti was 295 and i was given 6 units of insulin and all through the hospital stay. Today and msot of yesterday on no meds my FBS was 125. I'm pleased with that. I am ot on any meds at all for 2 weeks i will go for blood work and then to see my Dr. and see what she thinks.

I've only had 1 pain pill. slept pretty good last night.

thank you for all of you wo have been concerned.

Because of my sleep apnea, I had to be slightly awake when they took out my breathing tube. I think it also did some damage on the way out, because I keep feeling like I have something stuck in the back of my throat, and I fear it's injured tissue (yeah, gross--sorry).

I'm surprised you were able to take a pill. I was on liquid vicodin for three days. I switched to kids' tylenol so that I could drive.

I'm sorry you woke up like that after the surgery, freaky! That's over though, and it must be so nice to be at home. I hope you heal very quickly. Try to take your pain pills, they're to help you not only feel comfortable, but fight inflammation too. You need that. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you again!

I'm glad you are doing so well. I was worried that tsunami might get to where you are. Glad to see you are still on dry land.
