Challenge conquered for one day!

Yesterday Mom took me to my dr. appointment. Being a diabetic, she had to get up earlier and eat earlier than normal. She knew she would have to eat after I was finished with my appointment. She wanted Bob Evans.

I went into a slight panic, so new to a new lifestyle, here I was facing a restraunt menu. I realized how much easier it is to eat at home where you can control things and have ready access to nutrition counters.

I am notorious for being the last to order anyway because I can't make up my mind, so I am looking and looking at the menu, not much info on those things as to calorie count, fat, etc. Then Mom pointed out the light section in the middle.

I really wanted the fresh spinach salad, but with my coumadin all wacked out I knew that wasn't an option. Then I seen this spinach omlet....had it sans the spinach, so it turned out to be an onion omlet, lol. Then to add insult to injury, my Mom decides that she wants the deep dish cherry cobbler for dessert! I told her I would pass, didn't have the desire for dessert. Besides had a 1/2 oz pack of strawberry jam on my dry wheat toast, that was my dessert. :)

Low and behold, the calories, fat etc was listed, so I'm digging for pen and paper to write it all down so I could log it in to Sparkpeople!

Good thing we don't eat out often, I would be in a panic each time by wondering if I got the numbers right when I plug them into here.

Then later in the afternoon I go grocery shopping. That is going to be a harder task now as well. I was forever reading labels and trying to find stuff that wouldn't blow the calorie, fat count but would fill me up. My girls and grandaughter were wondering if we were ever going to leave the grocery. Then we usually just do the self-check out, yesterday they were saying and steering me to the cashier! They were actually ready to leave the store and fast!

I am excited, I got my American Heart Association low fat, low cholesteroal cookbook today. I can't wait until my days off next week to fix some of the recipes.

    I always have the same problem at restaurants and I love to eat out. I think you made the best choices you could! The AHA cookbook is a good one!
