So it's been a while since I blogged but I need to do this one so I can hold myself accountable by announcing this to the (SP) world. Tomorrow starts Lent and I am going to give up second helpings. I've been struggling with portion control, specifically at dinner. This has got to stop if I'm going to reach my final goals once and for all. My husband told me that when he met me (almost 31 years ago) that I ate like a bird. Well, I really don't remember that cos I know how much I love to eat - especially my own cooking lol I need to focus! Our daughter is getting married in July and I want to be at goal AND maintenance before then.

So.....let the games begin and the good times roll.....YES!

    Hey sorry I'm a little slow getting back here...been really really busy as the time gets nearer for our baby girl's wedding in July. I'm the "wedding planner" so I've been doing most of it while Alex has been focused on her studies. (BriarRose, I have 2 older daughters and stepson; thankx for the compliment!). She's also graduating from college this weekend. My 25th wedding anniversary is June 14 but due to the wedding we will not be going to visit back home (Maui) till later this year or next. (a little less to plan for now but still a lot of activities going on)

Thankx for the support, April and Nina :) I heart my SP friends!!

Shanna, I don't do a food journal, just 'track' my food intake daily in my planner so I can tweak when necessary. It helps a lot. Some day maybe when I have more spare time, I'll get back to my journals. (I hope!)

Donna, I slipped a few times, but for the most part I was able to stick with my 'sacrifice' lol It's now past Lent and I still struggle with it - guess it didn't turn into a full-fledged habit - but second helpings don't occur as often as before!

Thankx Kirk, you're probably right...you know how it is...we are our biggest critic :)

    emoticon on the forthcoming wedding. Not sure where you are on your way to goal but there's still time to make a change. I'm sure the last thing your daughter will be thinking of at the ceremony is your size. emoticon emoticon

    Absolutely you can do it! I have kept a food journal for awhile now, since I've hit a plateau I took a closer look and found several areas I could tweek - I think for me, journalling before I eat may be my best approach - that way when I see it in writing, I have an opportunity to change my mind before the damage is done! Thanks for your input Roger, :) but for one thing, I don't count calories. I go by "feel", and I know I'm in my calorie range...but it's that second, and sometimes third - yes, I said that out loud - third helping, that puts me outta range. I figured Lent would be a great time - 6 weeks - to get into the habit of stopping at one helping at dinner. They say it takes 3 weeks to form a habit. And since it's a Lenten sacrifice, the idea is to "give up" something, not rotate i.e. pile up on my first plate and skip my second plate. What's the point? That's not sacrificing. So no, my intention is to give up my second plate. The first plate will remain to be my normal size first plate helping. Seconds might not be a struggle for you or others, but it is for me, that's why I I'm doing this this way.

    As long as you are in your daily intake range, what's the harm. We are all human and I know we have times of weakness. In your mind you'll give up seconds, then you'll pile on your plate, so then what. Stay within your range is the best solution. And if you get off track....get back on again. no harm done. Seconds isn't a struggle.

    Thankx everyone for the encouragement and vote of confidence in me. I started a Cleanse on Tuesday so the temptation was not there. Then yesterday was Ash Wednesday and I was still cleansing (and fasting) so no problem. All I can do is take it one day at a time...one dinner at a time haha It takes 21 days to form a habit and I'm determined to get a new habit out of this!

I CAN DO THIS! (I'm not yelling at anyone but myself lol)

    Lent is a good time to reflect on your goals and what we're doing. I think if portion control isn't going so well for you right now, it'll help you focus on what you're eating, the size of your plate/servings, etc. Sometime we just have to slow down and reflect, but you can do it, dial it in, and figure it out! emoticon

    If I can do it so can you! I haven't gone back for seconds in a while now. Even on Christmas or Thanksgiving! My dad's parents on Thanksgiving asked me why and my mom chimed in, 'She's on a diet, she has been for at least a year now.' I really hate that word. I'm not on a diet, I am more conscious of what I put in my body! I remember eating like a bird though, and yes I love food too so I hear you. Yes it is tough but I have faith that you can do it! emoticon
