MARCH Weight Loss Challenge :)

**I attempted to start this challenge 1/28/11, was doing well for a week, then got really sick for about two a half weeks. With birthday and vacation, I reverted back to old bad eating habits & no exercise, I just never got back on.

--My massage therapist and I agreed to only ONE "Do Over", more to the fact that I was sick so long. (so here is a copy of the challenge/goals, pretty much the same, new challenge end date and higher start weight(unfortunately) and we've settled on a prize)

My massage therapist knew just what to say to motivate me. A challenge, a race, I'm all for it! Just gives me more drive

I told him tonight, I've been really been struggling this month getting on track with eating and exercising. I've had 3 faults starts this month, and last year I was on track by 1/18/10, and going strong.

Me: -10 lbs
Him: -16 lbs


See it's only fair as it is proven that men lose weight faster than
men emoticon We both have about the same amount of weight to lose in general (for body size/height). This is a race and there is a prize :) So it is ONNN!!!!




QUESTION for my Sparkyfriends??
Should I lift light weights in combination with the cardio (which I did last year), to lose weight faster? Asking as I know sometimes lifting weights can show as a gain on the scale.

-As a side note, when eating right and working out like I should, I typically lose 4-6lbs a month. So I'm going to really have to push to hit 10 lbs in 30 days!




GOALS to achieve this:

1. 90oz of water a day (currently drink 40-50oz)

2. Make my large morning coffee a small & work on fazing it out

3. Exercise 6 days a week (min. 45 mins) (when on track was doing 4x wk)

4. Eating out no more than 3 meals per week
(currently eat out 5 days a week for lunch, twice a week weekday nights, and 2-3 times over the weekend)

5. Daily Affirmations :)




STARTING WEIGHT: 270 lbs (already lost -2 lbs :)
TARGET WEIGHT: 260 lbs

PRIZE: Gift certificate for two at the new Comedy Club "Helium"


UPDATE 4/5/11 - Both my massage therapist and I didn't hit our goals..so it was a draw! We both lost 5lbs, but hey at least it was a loss! =)

    I agree with the previous comments. Definitely add the strength training! It can show a weight gain at first, but you'll lose more overall and be sure that it will be fat lost, not muscle!

    I totally agree... if you only have time to do one workout (and I've been doing a lot of research on this) strength training appears to be the better choice for weight loss in the long run, while cardio is better for overall fitness.

    How about a bit of both with interval or circuit training? I sweat like crazy on my interval days and it gets my heart pumping and my muscles toned! :)

    Lifting might add a bit of weight when you first start, but after you build up a bit of muscle it will help you torch calories during your workouts. You should definitely include it, it's so beneficial. Ten lbs in one months is a big goal.. good luck!!
