This is my continuing Virtual tour of the United States which so far has taken me from my home in Manhattan to the middle of Ohio...
So this week I took off headed north toward Cleveland. Who knew there was so much to see along the road. First off was the Christmas Story house. Yes, this really is a house and they even have a gift shop where you can buy the Leg Lamp. You can even get it in various sizes with the crate marked "Fragile". Honestly, life never ceases to amaze me. Who buys this stuff??
After biking away, head shaking, I made it into Cleveland. Of course what's a trip to Cleveland without a stop at the Rock and Roll Hall of fame....
Of course I picked up some new tunes for my iPod. Gotta have the right music to keep you motivated on these long rides!!
From Cleveland I turned west along Lake Erie. Saw a beautiful sunrise come up. I just had to stop and take this pic to share with y'all...
A bit further along I found the Memorial to Smoky "The Yorkie Doodle Dandy". Smoky was THE most famous dog of WWII. Apparently she was found in a foxhole and accompanied William Wynne into combat for 2 years -- all 4 lbsof her! After the war, Wynne smuggled her back to the states where she bacame quite a celebrity. So, here's to Smoky!
After paying my respects to Smoky with a bouquet of doggie treats, I remounted my bike and continued on my journey. I passed through Avon, Ohio -- the Duck Tape Capital of the World. I kid you not! Hey it had to be somewhere. Duck tape IS the most useful substance on earth! See... it can even be a very effective babysitting tool!
Duck tape rocks! Just ask McGyver!! The rest of the road was pretty quiet. Til I got to Fremont Ohio -- hometown of President Rutherford B. Hayes AND the largest Heinz Ketchup Factory in the World! So....
Dear Spark Friends --
Greetings from Fremont Ohio!! This is the Rutherford B. Hayes Library. What an awesome week...Saw so many amazing and bizarre things on the road this week. AND I finally broke that 100 miles a week goal by traveling 101.09 miles from start of journey to end! Can't wait to see what next week will bring, till then, be well!
Cheers, Tory (SafariBabe)
