My scale MUST be broken ... and prayers

Numbers are the end point, but they may betray you on your journey

Oh, and here's the finished cake. I said I like to bake, but had never frosted a cake before.

I've been struggling to regain my footing for the past couple weeks and I needed to watch your video, too. I've relaxed a lot about the scales because, as you so rightly pointed out, we tend to not give ourselves credit for the 90% of stuff we got right during a day when we 10% goofed. So, thanks for the reminder, Big Guy. (The cake looks delicious...and kudos to your boy.)

Hey! I'm brandnew to Sparkpeople.... and not sure how I even ended up watching this video (LOL!!) - but THANK YOU. I've been at it only a week and I weigh myself daily(I know... I shouldn't do it that often...) but after a few days I saw 2 pounds off.. then on the 5th day 1 pound gained and it almost sent me to McDonald... but the emails from sparkpeople had me continue 2 more days of wiser food choices and I got to the park for a walk with my daughter an extra day or two - in the end, just 2 days after I saw a gain... I'd hit my GOAL for my 1st week (which was a 3 pound loss my first week)... so,,, I DID IT - despite that "number" jump. You are absolutely correct - I have a feeling I'll be watching your video here "often" to keep remind me of what is truly important on this journey!

nice vocal work, thats the way to do it. give your son a big pat on the back from us for making the team. keep up your great attitude and forget the numbers for the big picture. and by the way, that cake looks good enough to eat! i'm sure it's fat free, sugar free, calorie free and tastes better than any other cake ever, right?

i never really thought about it that way... even when i have a bad "scale day" i don't really think about the GOOD decisions i made that will help later on. thanks for the food for thought :D and that cake sounds deeeelicious.. mmm coconut.

& thats awesome for your kid that made the baseball team; i was a softball player my whole life so i know how hugely time consuming/stressful/fun tryouts are!

First off, let me say that you voice warm up ..........well, it scared the hell out of my dog! :) Ha! It was kind of funny in a little bit of a warped way!

Anyway, let me say, you are a heck of a guy. The cake, the warm words and prayers for Sunny.........well, that is pretty special. Glad I friended ya!

I agree, the numbers are both friend and foe. I weigh myself rarely, for the simple fact that that darn number will not be MY ruler. Heck no. How I feel and how the clothes fit are my barometers. Right, wrong or indifferent. That's how I roll, as Sunny likes to say!

Hope the cake is yummy!

Great blog today. Too often we allow the scale to steal our joy or rob us of our accomplishments. Without writing a book I used to have eating issues weighed 40 pounds less than I do now, still wasn't happy. It has to be about being healthy and not just the numbers. Numbers don't tell the whole story.

Praying for Sunnbunny. She is not only beautiful on the outside but her spirit is amazing. Her joy is infectious.

You cannot have done this blog at a better time thank you so much. I really needed this, I have been up and down with the same 2-3 pound since Christmas, my scale will not go below 200. Some day the scale will move. I just have to keep on doing right. I am sure the cake will be great, your a good dad!

Thanks for the pep talk. It is true we let the numbers on the scale determine how we stay on track. Hope your cake turned out great. Don't eat too much.

I agree with what you said about eating right and getting enough exercise we just need to keep going... I have been at 260 for 2 weeks but today the scale budged by.5 lbs!!! I'm thrilled at that because I know I have stayed within my calorie count and I have increased my exercise. Thanks for the post. Thanks for the pep talk about not letting the number beats us.

I totally agree with you! It's tough not to let the number on the scale be the only thing that keeps you going... but weight fluctuates and as long as you know you tried your hardest and made good choices.. the scale shouldn't be the only thing you rely on when you're trying to gain a healthier lifestyle. Great post!

I hope you success making the cake. I am one of those who desire to loose slowly, so 1 pound weekly is great for me because of past experience of loosing fast and gaining it back and more.
Praying for Sunnybunny!
