In 1999 I only weighed 125lbs. I had returned to pre-pregnancy weight within a year after each of my boys was born, and maintained that weight for 6 years. The spring of 1999, I gained 60lbs in 3 months! Bloodwork came back normal and no other physical reason for the weightgain except I was nearing 30yr and my metabolism hadn't slowed down a little, it basically stopped. I started nursing school the next year and with stress and eating on a very small budget (pooooor food choices but cheap) I gained even more. The last 6 months, developed a liking for Starbucks coffees (yummmm) but had no clue that they made it with whole milk and never mind the calories! Finally bringing me to the horrible realization that I was at the highest weight I'd ever been in my life - 215lbs!

The difference between this and all the other times I've tried to lose weight...I'm not dieting. This site has helped me to see how to control my portions and monitor my calories (in a non-compulsive way - grin) so that it is becoming a lifestyle, not a "diet" that I will drop when I get bored. This was exciting for me too, because it didn't mean I had to give up my Starbucks, but just that I had to change to non-fat milk and maybe only a couple times a week rather than every day!

I've already developed a new energy level and love for life in the last few weeks since starting and I'm excited to keep going!! This is THE YEAR!!! I'm becoming healthy and full of energy once more, and I look forward to getting to know other members and becoming more encouraged by your successes as well.
