My reluctant decision

Sunday, February 20, 2011

One of my goals for this year was to run the Cooper Bridge Run (10k) at Charleston, SC this April.
However, this past year my crohns disease has been FAR beyond under control. I have been to the ER/doctors office EVERY month since December 09. And, I have been twice in the past week.

I was talking to my younger sister the other day and I told her I am "afraid" to do it this year b/c of that..... That I am afraid the "stress" of running it will cause me to flare up.... AGAIN....

So, I am going to renew my gym membership, and spend the next year training, and adjusting my diet.... (more organic/ natural/ whole/ raw foods)

And NEXT April, when it comes time to do it, I WILL do it....

And I will RUN EVERY SINGLE STEP OF THE WAY......

I can't let myself give up on this HUGE goal for myself......
I will, however, allow myself to put it on the back burner, while I get my health issues under better control.....

....... besides, I don't want to HAVE to run my butt off because I'm trying to race my bowels to a porta-potty.....( sometimes, they win)
emoticon however.... emoticon

Now I see in your blog, too, you had to miss the bridge run.
I love your idea to find alternative ways to keep you on the workout path.
To which gym do you go?

Have you thought about trying some 3K or 5K runs once you get your Crohn's in check? It would be less stress, since it's a much shorter distance. See how your body reacts to those and then add in some miles...

A good resource to find the races near you.

Take care of yourself! Challenges are good but being healthy is better! Crohns Disease takes alot out of a person, zapping strength, etc. so everything you do to help reduce its negative effects is a plus!
