Biggest Loser is Inspiring Me!

On January 3, my three sons and I started a Family Biggest Loser Challenge. I knew I had no shot to win, since I had already lost most of my weight, and was down to needing to lose about the last 20 lbs. or so. But I said okay to their idea.
Surprisingly, it has inspired me to work really hard to lose the last weight. I usually start letting up about now when I'm on a weight loss journey...never actually reaching a pre-set goal. I hope this time is different. I hope this time I can make my goal--only 13.4 pounds away--and that I can keep it off. I have been frantically searching for successful maintenance stories and tips and ideas to help me when I get there. I am dismayed when I hear the percentages--only 5-10% of people actually keep off all the weight they lose. Depressing. I've worked so hard, I like how I look, and I NEVER want to go back to where I was. And STILL I KNOW how easy that would be. It's a slippery slope and I have to keep a tight rein on myself, til the end of time!

Although I only lost .2 lbs. last week, I made up for it this week--losing 3.2 lbs. WOOHOO!! But my youngest son has claimed the lead over me finally, I had been leading since the beginning. He has already lost over 23 lbs. since we started for an 8.27% loss, I have only lost 15.4 lbs. for an 8.06% loss. I am satisfied with my loss however, especially this late in my journey! And if you count the 154 pounds I have lost in total, I'm at over 46% lost. My oldest son doesn't have much to lose either, but has lost over 10 lbs. already. My middle son needs to lose over 200 lbs., he is the one I worry most about, but has only lost 6 lbs. He has a hard time giving up the food he loves to eat. Don't we all?

    I know you are happy the kids are joining in the weight loss challenge. I hope you and the brothers inspire your one son to really work on giving up those bad foods and lose some of that weight. He would feel so much better.
Regain the weight I have lost ? NO, that is something that I know for sure will not happen. I will never go back to that.
It was not even living, just existing. It was like living in hell. Or what I take hell to be.
I lave lost the cravings , I have no desire to eat the foods that I used to consume with utter abandonment.
I don't think you will either. We don't have time to do it again. This is it. No round trips.

    Good luck with the challenge. And you don't have to be a number or a statstic. You can just be you who has changed your lifestyle, lost the weight and will keep it off. I'm a new person with a new life. So are you. :)

    Yes we do have a hard time giving up the food we love. I empathize with your son. It's not easy but so worth it when we can finally take that step.
Congratulations to you and your other sons on what you've done. And congratulations also to your son who is struggling because 6 lbs is still a step in the right direction. Hopefully he will be able to fully engage in this idea soon.
Wonderful idea for all of you to do this as a family and challenge each other!

    Maggie - Way to go and You are one of the Biggest Loser's I know--LOL. I have no doubt you will keep the weight off as it's a healthy lifestyle now for you and just keep doing what you're doing so well. . .How wonderful to get all the family involved in a challenge and it sure is motivating you to reach your final goal weight!! You Will be at your Goal Weight very soon of that I have no doubt and you will be one of the 5-10% who keep it off as you're not only doing it for yourself but for all those loved ones you care so deeply about.     Maggie........you have no idea how much you inspire me. I too am near then end of the losing part of my journey but haven't lost a thing in the last month. I can feel my old self calling to me all the time.....she is lonely and wants me to join her. I will NOT but I've I've slipped so many times this month. I think the only thing keeping me from gaining is the exercise I continue to do on a daily basis.

When I sign on to Spark everyday and see how well you are doing I rejoice. I know if you can reach your goal so can I. I am so grateful to you for working so hard and sharing with us.....you give me the push I need!

Congrats to you and your family for inspiring each other. I'll keep your middle son in my thoughts........

    You can do it Maggie ... This time you have done the work, gained the knowledge and stuck with a commitment to yourself! You can do it! I'm nowhere near to being a success story like you are but I've been reading those success stories too. I am convinced that the idea of continuing to track your food and exercise combine with keeping your weight within a 5 pound range from your goal weight (up or down) will work (at least for me). We stop moving forward or maintaining when we stop doing the work it took to get us to where we wanted to be in the first place! You can do it ... and I can tell from your Spark Page that there is a ton of support backing you up all the way. Believe in yourself ... we believe in you!
