So I started running about 5 weeks ago and am now able to run a whole 3.2 miles without walking and on the treadmill I can do it in under 40 minutes like I wanted, but the tricky part will be when I go outside and have to run "for real" without my pace being dictated. I'm thinking I will be fine because I like to be able to see the goal and that usually motivates me more, but we'll see when the weather gets a bit nicer and I can try it out! I've been looking at signing up for a 5k sometime in April, but haven't actually taken the plunge yet. I know my husband will be away in May all month so I know I probably can't do one then unless I happen to have some visitors to look after the kids for me. I'm pretty sure I'll be ready by then and am going to start varying my speed a little bit. Right now I'm only running between 5.0 and 5.5 but I would like to be able to run the whole thing in 5.5 or more.
I've been doing a bit of a "detox" the last few days or so, if you can call it that. I'm cutting out meat (except seafood), dairy and wheat as well as sugar. Basically I'm eating fresh, and completely unprocessed foods. It's gotten me over a plateau so I feel like it's working for me right now and am going to stick with it for two weeks or so before gradually adding the other things back in. Dairy is the hardest for me because I love yogurt, but I'm coping fine. I've had a bit of a sweet tooth since Christmas time so I'm hoping the lack of sugar will stop my cravings a bit. So far so good--I've not really had too many and have been able to have fruit to get rid of them instead of candy. I'm hoping this, in combination with the running will help me hit my goal sooner than my birthday. Looking forward to better weather so we can start doing more active things outside as a family (since my husband has decided to try to get healthy too--focusing more on the exercise than the food, although he's trying a bit with that too).
