Day far, so good

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Okay, today is the 3rd day of my new life. I've been eating within the suggested ranges (well, yesterday I went a little over, but still better than my old habits), and have not had a single unhealthy food. It's amazing how quickly I'm feeling better.

I am gluten intolerant. I learned this on Monday, so I've been working on becoming an "instant expert" on GF eating. So far I don't mind it too much. The first difficult moment for me was yesterday afternoon, when a coworker, a dear sweet gentleman, gave me a blackberry pie that his sister had made for me. I had mentioned around Christmastime that it was my favorite pie and that I hadn't had one in years, since the aunt who used to make them for me passed away. I had to actually turn down one of my favorite things in the world! But, I was good and gave it all away to other people. My husband suggested that I should have had just a small piece, but that is a slippery slope for me. I'd rather have none than just a tiny taste. Then this morning a gentleman tried to give me a fun size 3 Musketeers. Without even thinking I said, "Thank you, but I can't have that." So, I guess that means I'm committed now!

I'll be going to Earth Fare tomorrow because I am determined to find a gluten-free pizza that I will enjoy. I've never tried one before, but there's got to be something out there, right? If necessary I will make one from scratch, but I would be very pleased to find one pre-made that actually tastes like pizza. Wish me luck!

Update regarding the GF pizza. I've tried two of them now. "Against The Grain" brand was pretty good, but "Glutino" was better. Next up-finding GF tortillas that taste okay. The ones I recently bought were bleh!

I think this is going to be a treasure hunt for a while! emoticon

Gluten free pizza is pretty easy to find. I have not tried it for taste but I know through a friend there are three places near my house. Good first blog.

Good for you. Changing your lifestyle is so hard. I know! And I don't have the hardship of cutting gluten out of my diet. Keep up the good work. I've found that if I allow myself one cheat day every week, it can help me stay on track long term. By cheat day, I just mean I make my own meal plan. I still eat healthy, but I'm not going to count my calories and stress out, and I can have a small dessert or eat out with friends that day. I'm still careful, and don't go overboard, but it's nice to let the reins loosen for one day. Just my thoughts....
