Blog #3 - Biggest Loser Day 4

Thursday, February 17, 2011

emoticonWorked out for 3 hours on tuesday, guess I may have over did it. Skipped yesterday - feeling alot better today. Still really pumped up about the contest. Just a little bumbed by the family, they think they are helping by making comments like "your not allowed to eat that" or "what excuse do you have for not going to the gym". They think they are helping with the comments all the while munching on chips or cookies. Sometimes I feel like I need to be in a closet and after a period of time make the big reveal. But I set back and say "this is for me" and block out those comments, or maybe I should say "I am using your excuse for not working out today, Oh that's right you think working out is walking 4 feet to pick up the remote (LOL). Today will be a good day!! emoticon

I think it's so irritating because it's what we are most sensitive about or attuned to at this moment in time. It feels like "judgement" from them not encouragement. Being on the defensive quickly turns to offense as we attack them, even if we don't vocalize it out loud.

I had to talk to my family about the things said and let them know that even if they thought it was well-meaning it was not helpful. I have a plan and I am in control. I know what I am eatting and how often I am working out. I have tracking tools and qualified resources for information when needed.

The talk worked and they stopped the "helpful" comments.

Good Luck to you too!! I also skipped yesterday evening and I didn't go this morning. Too bad we don't have a Friday morning class @ catonsville. It gives me an excuse not to get up early though lol. emoticon

Congrats on losing another pound

Isn't it amazing how much "well meaning" comments can annoy? I know that my response (I'm working on it, really!) is usually to do the OPPOSITE of what a "well meaning" relative says. I've figured out that one or two have figured out that I do that - and might be doing it on purpose (threatened because I'm changing? because they don't want change, period? dunno). The rest, though - they really do think they're helping - as though I'm actually going to not notice that *oops* that's not a rice cake, it's a cookie! (Sigh. They mean well. Doesn't mean it can't be annoying!)

I like your "I'm using your 'remote control' exercise routine" idea... I think I'll try that next time!
