I am learning to take this weight loss journey one day at a time. I am changing my mindset for the better.
Here are a few mistakes that I have learned from.
Mistake - I was weighing myself too often and at different times throughout the day.
Lesson learned - I will only weigh myself at the same time whenever I weigh myself.
For years I was caught up in - it I was up on the scale - oh well I might as well eat what I want because I did not lose. If I was down of the scale - I can treat myself to something because I lost weight. Not sure why I was doing this for years. I ultimately was pretty much maintaining my current weight. I want to lose weight and this mindset was not working.
Now I only weight myself at 7 am once a day or less and this is more accurate guide for my progress and is working better for me.
Mistake - not really paying attention to calories for the food I eat.
Lesson learned - now I am actually memorizing some of the foods that I regularly eat and doing a rough calorie estimate of my calories throughout the day- once I log my calories it is usually under my estimate which is good news. Now I find myself saying oh if I eat that I will save 40 calories which I can spend on something else.
Mistake - all or nothing mindset for exercise
Lesson learned - I am going to start slow by doing at least 10 minutes f fitness on most days - usually once I do 10 minutes I want to do more. I will also park further and use the steps throughout the day. I bought a pedometer watch which I love to help me increase my steps.
Mistake - when I overate in the past I would continue to overeat for weeks and found it very hard to get back on track.
Lesson learned - Now I know if I have have a day where I eat more calories that I should - I have learned that what counts is what I do next
I am still working on emotional eating. I am at least recognizing when I do this so that is helpful because you have to admit you have a problem to correct it.
