Still struggling

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

I continue to struggle with this hip injury. I am very frustrated as I see the scale continuing to creep up, although it has finally slowed. I am tracking all my calories and am getting better at staying in my range. I still cannot exercise to the level I am use to and that I want to.

I had my MRI last week. I got a summary of my results from my physical therapist on Monday. The good news is that there are no tears in any of the soft tissue and the tendon is healing nicely. The bad news is there are more injuries than we thought, none of which are extremely serious but still not good. I have a pretty severe case of arthritis in the joint. The bursa is also damaged pretty badly. Those are the minor findings. I can deal with arthritis and the bursa will heal in time.

The finding that worries me is an osteophyte was found. I have a bone protrusion coming out of my hip joint. That explains why walking is no problem and I can do the stationary bike without pain. I cannot, however, do any twisting of my leg at the hip joint whether my leg is bent or not. The osteophyte is pinching tissue everytime I rotate my leg. I am not sure at this point what can be done for it. I still have a few days until I see the doctor again. It is not good that this tissue is being pinched and possibly damaged everytime I twist. I am always aware not of how I am moving to avoid any pain. I am hoping that something other than surgery can take care of this but am not sure.

Until then I will just pedal away on my bike and play Wii games because that is what I can do.

Stay strong, do what you can do and don't sweat the rest. Do what you have to do to get better so that you can get back to that point. You are a strong person and a motivation to lots of sparkies!!

I hope you recover quickly but not too quickly where you re-injure yourself.

This has to be very hard and depressing for you, but you get an "A" for pushing on with your exercise program and food tracking to the best of your ability. So many would have given up. I know it seems slow now, but this can have a happy ending.

AMY GIRL ALL YOU CAN DO IS WHAT YOU CAN DO. DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP OVER ALL OF THIS BECAUSE IT'S NOT MAKING IT ANY BETTER. JUST DO WHAT YOU CAN DO AND KEEP WATCHING YOUR FOOD AND CHARTING IT. YOUR BODY HAS TO GET USED TO THE PACE IT IS GOING NOW:) YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS WITH OR WTHOUT THE SURGERY. I KNOW WHEN I BROKE MY ANKLE AND IT DIDN'T HEAL AS FAST AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO, I WANTED TO PUSH MY DR INTO LETTING ME DO THINGS FASTER THAN I NEEDED TO. BUT YOU JUST CAN'T GIRL. TAKE TIME TO HEAL AND YOU'LL BE ALRIGHT.

HUGS...CONNIE emoticon
