Jeans - The Denim Kind

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

I just bought three new pair of shoes (this is my real addiction in life) with 4" heels. I am 5'1" so most of my pants are either petite in length or I had them hemed for resonable shoes. This includes my jeans. I have one pair of jeans (out of about 10 pair) that I can wear with REALLY high shoes. I also have mostly boot-cut jeans and wanted another pair or two of straight leg jeans. So I needed to find me a pair of jeans that fit. Now, I have to get my jeans altered (not just hemmed but taken in at the waist) so this is a painful process.

My closet has Lucky Jeans, Banana Republic Jeans and DKNY Jeans (I find these to be too high waisted so I only wear them to knock a round in). There are three styles from Lucky and two styles from BR. Sizes vary from 2 and 4 in BR jeans and 26, 27 and 28 in the Lucky jeans. BR changed their jeans which messed me up, so I am forced to go other places. Now, its not bad enough that this process is painful on so many levels but to go into a jean shop and have tall, very thin waif like people in the store to help is also intimidating. Well, last night these waif like girls in the Lucky store decided they were going to help me. I said I wanted to try some straight cut jeans on and the one girl asked what size. I told her I wanted to start with a 27 and 28 regular length. She give me the "once over" and smuggly says, why don't you try the 29 short. Just because I knew she would be WRONG I agreed. I put the jeans on and she asked me how they fit, I stepped out of the dressing room and asked her how SHE thought they fit...I walked over to the wall and display talble and grabbed me a pair of 27 regulars. Walked back in the dressing room, came out and asked her if she thought maybe this size was more appropriate. How dare her or any sales person!!!

I ended up taking the jeans, but only because I DO NOT have to get them altered in Any Way Shape or Form!!! They fit in the length and waist...it will be the only pair of jeans in my closet that will still have the tags intact:-)

Gotta love those sales people sometimes! I'm 5'4 so I am almost too tall for petites and normally too short for regulars. Shopping for pants is always a challenge. I found New York and Company's petites come in a decent length and size for me.
