Tranforming Before My Eyes

For the past few weeks, I've just been shocked every time I get a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Can this really be me? I'm thinner & more muscular. I walk by a mirror and have to go back and take a second look... is this really ME!?! I accidentally touch my shoulders or arms or legs...and can't believe the muscles I'm feeling are MINE!

I also made a big leap in swimming today. I only started lessons 4 weeks ago (though I was swimming some this summer). Today was my 7th swim. On my first swim, it was hard to go 50 yards without stopping. On the second swim, I made it 100 yards. In our lessons we worked up to a 150 and then a 200. In lessons we went from 600 yards to 750 yards by our 3rd lesson.

Last weekend, I went swimming with my daughter and swam for an entire hour. (My lesson is only 30 minutes.) I swam 1150 yards!!! And, I swam my first EVER 200 yards without stopping! I switched back & forth between various strokes to keep me going.

Today, while my daughter was at a playdate, I went swimming. I swam for 42 minutes and made it 1000 yards!!! Not only that, but I bumped it up and did a 300 yard swim... TWICE! I even timed myself and was able to do the 300 yards in 9 minutes. That means I should be able to do the 500 meters of my sprint triathlon in less than 18 minutes. WOW!!!

But, even bigger than being able to swim 300 yards was that I did it all in freestyle (except flipping onto my back to catch my breath twice) AND that I felt like I could keep swimming! I figured out how to swim and keep it comfortable! I think it is both from an improvement in technique and an improvement in stamina.

What about you? Are you seeing transformations? I'm loving re-discovering myself in new ways every week, and I love it! I hope you are, too!

    Wow! That's awesome! I lost my first 30 pounds swimming. I've sort of gotten out of it because I don't know how to swim properly. I just kind of frog-paddle around. But I gotta tell you, swimming might just be the best workout ever... because you get out and you're all refreshed instead of sweaty and gross! emoticon

    Love this - and love that your have a Sprint in your future...they are so much fun. I can't remember if I have told you I've done them....

    You will be fine in the swim. The hardest part is working around all of the people...just remember to keep your eyes open, and breathe....and you will be fine.
