Mums day out

Thursday, February 10, 2011

My 84 yr old Mum goes to a day centre once a week. She loves it people to talk to and places to go. Also very good meals.
Mum is slowly loosing weight she doesn't need to but she can't be bothered cooking for herself any more.
At the moment she is just above 7 stone.

She told me yesterday she was so full.
I asked how

We all went to a Hotel in the Adelaide hills and I had Fish and chips then Pavlova
I burst out laughing, she told me she cleaned up the plate.
So I said a big get fat day Mum
She proudly said yes.

My sister and I are becoming concerned about her as she is not eating enough.
So whether Mum likes it or not a few changes are going to be made .
As Mum wants to stay in her home as long as possible, she will have to have a cleaner, meals delivered and a carer .
I have been an absolute nag lately for she needs regular Dr appointments for her blood pills. She makes millions of red blood cells, more than normal; these than clot her blood
She is letting all that go but still maintains her garden as the Botanic gardens
The joys as we age

Ruth I got unsubscribed from your blog again!
What you say about your mum reminds me of my MIL she's 95 and lives on her own and eats rubbish, we got her meals on wheels and she said 1) too big portions (what about saving for the following day?) 2) food not good (better are the sausage rolls and chocolate eclairs). We did all we could do but to no avail.
I got her a cleaner 10 years ago because her house smelled and she never looked back.
She now has bad arthritis on one side of her body and and booked herself into a respite home for 2 weeks to see if she likes it ( she's intelligent and doesn't want any people at the home to come and talk to her about uninteresting things, understandable), then she can go and stay permanently in any one she likes ( she's Legacy). So, very hard to manage the worry when they have a strong will.

Makes me envious as I haven't had fish and chips for a long time.
The best part would be the pavlova. I love it with fresh berries on it.

Sounds like your mum needs to have the home care. It will ease your
mind knowing she is being looked after.
Have a nice man free weekend my friend.
