What an emotional roller coaster. I am just returning from caring for my 79 year old father while he underwent open heart surgery. It is wonderful to report that he did so well with the surgery and recovery that he was out of the hospital in 5 days. He then went to an in-patient cardiac rehab program because we were planning to discharge him back to his home and fully on his own. I was there to help for a week, but then he would pick up all of his previous responsibilities, such as cooking, shopping, laundry and caring for his home. He did so well at in-patient that they discharged him in 3 days! That man is determined. We spent a lovely week together while he worked through his breathing exercises, and meeting with the home nurse, OT, and PT. He had lots of company and neighborhood support, many phone calls, and visitors. Busy, emotional time that varied from deep concern and even fear of the future, to elated with good results and home coming.
My DH stepped up to the plate to take care of everything at home while i was away, and my teenage son stepped up to the plate with school work and being helpful at home, as well as in good communication with me and his grandfather. Wow....relief....and it is good to be home!
No exercise, but did well with my food plan. Came home down a bit on the scale, too, which was also a nice surprise.
Enjoying get back into my own schedule again today.
Wow...it is good to be home AND have a good report to share with you.
Looking forward to catching up with you soon.
