I'm a researcher, writer, course designer and anything else I can cobble together to keep body and soul together. Since I live in the gray, I'm always stunned to realize how binary I am about my life.
My medical team suggested that my Schwinn-Airdyne was not the right in-house bike for me any longer 'cause using my arms and legs together like that pulled at the hip and leg I'm still rehabbing. So, I started a quest for a new bike. I found a new home for the bike and began the quest for a new bike.
A friend suggested that I not put this in my bedroom. Light bulb moment!
My 27-year-old daughter lived in England and is not likely to ever need her room again on a permanent basis. Why not make it into a home gym? Even better, move my office and use that room for the gym since the lighting is better.
Thus started the quest. What to include? A SparkPeople friend, Angela, suggested checking with a local uni that trained PT. Well, being me, if that's good, what's an even better idea?
I checked around (I am a researcher) and a sports medicine PT who also does personal training. He went through my medical records and we selected the gym equipment.
Love the new system. Will like it more when I'm allowed to use it all. But, the trainer comes twice a week for half and hour and we've worked out how I can use the rower with only my arms to give me more upper body workout.
He's also working with my massage therapist on the muscle groups that are still spasming and they both work with the kinesiologist. It's a medical team. Wow! I never get this type of cooperation from the true medical professionals.
