Yesterday after work I took a new class at my gym, Spun. It is a combination of Spinning and Running. So we started off on our indoor track. The instructor Kirsten told us to warm up for 8 minutes by running around the track.
I thought I was doomed! I just started to build up to running - how could I ever run for 8 solid minutes?
But before I knew it the entire class was off running - and so was I.
So I ran for 8 solid minutes - I made it around the track 8 times (12 times = a mile).
I was dreading the next part of our work out - run a mile. As I was doing my warm up I felt my calves turn rock hard - probably from the kickboxing class the night before. I thought to myself - I will just skip the mile run, it's too hard, I hurt too much, and slip out the door before anybody notices.
Well, the instructor would notice because she was cheering me on at every lap. She knew I could do it - and I really didn't want to let her down.
So I ran that mile. I ran most of it - walked some - but never more than a half lap.
And you know what? I finished it. It took me 13:40 and I still wasn't the last one to finish.
Then we did 20 minutes of spinning.
I burned over 600 calories.
And I'm going back next Friday to do it all over again.
In fact, I'm headed to the gym in just a few minutes to take a Zumba class.
And I have lost another pound this week.
I did survive that run after all. Yeah me!
