Snowpocalyse Now!

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

We just got hit by a huge blizzard here in Chicago. I woke up this morning to snow drifts over 4 feet tall in the backyard. Bianca (my dog) had fun trying to forge a path out into the yard, and then refused to come back inside, she loved it. I had to watch her carefully because we have a 4 foot fence and the snow was drifted over the top in some places, as you can see:

Due to the high winds, the snow was only maybe 6 inches in some spots but drifted to 3-4+ feet high in others. Some of the cars on my block are bare of snow and others you can hardly see! Officially we got 20 inches.

Classes were canceled, I didn't have and classes today but I do have one tomorrow, so: snow day! Unfortunately we're supposed to have single digit temps overnight and tomorrow.

I spent a lot of time shoveling, luckily our walkway was one of those spots where the snow did not accumulate, although there was a 3+ foot hill of snow on the lawn nearby. The sidewalk was not so lucky, and I was only about to clear about 3/4 of it before I had to give up for the time being. My back hurts from shoveling but I am going to try to play DDR tonight anyway.

Oh here is a video of the snow, and Bianca in the yard:

Toronto didnt get nearly as much as you guys did. My dad live a little farther north and he told me they pulled the plows off the roads because they couldnt see what they were plowing. Yowza! Good to hear your puppy loved it!

You are so incredibly lucky (I rarely get any snow at all, and I really love it....that, or perhaps I was a snow-dog like Bianca in a past life, ha/ha) !!

Yup, snowpocalyse here in Ohio. Hope it ends and goes away soon, I'm tired of shoveling everytime I want to leave my driveway.

Glad to hear that you are safe and warm and that your pup loved the snow. My dog is getting old enough that she doesn't like snow more than about 6 inches deep.

Don't forget to track your shoveling. It counts as valid exercise.

That is such crazy amount of snow! We got ice and snow, but nowhere near that bad. Glad your pup enjoyed the weather- mine was not thrilled, but she's an old girl. Hope you enjoyed your day off classes. Stay warm!
