I'm not bragging. I'm not boasting. It's just a fact. I am an athlete.
Webster's defines an athlete as, "... any one trained to contend in exercises requiring great physical agility and strength; one who has great activity and strength; a champion."
One year into my journey to a healthier life, and I am more than a little surprised that those words apply to me. But they do. I'm able to run eight and half miles and maintain a sub-eleven minute pace. And next week, on my next Long Run Sunday, I'll push myself to at least nine miles.
I'm feeling stronger everyday. I am capable of more and more, running faster and farther. I'm building a better me, and I'll be honest... I like it a lot.
For those just starting out on their Spark People experience, I say that you need look no farther than me to see living proof that it works. Start small with good decisions, let them snowball into a whole new way of living, then watch as you, too, become an athlete.
