I Am Hooked And I Won't Give It Up

Saturday, January 29, 2011

I am hooked on my pedometer! It is great. I have had pedometers in the past that would reset themselves because I would hit the button when I sat down or one that just would reset itself because it wanted to!
This one my son got for me at Christmas. It is small and smooth. To reset it, I have to hold in the button for reset.
The first few days I wore it, and since Atlanta had snow on Christmas only got a few hundred steps in. Yep, I was a couch potato big time! Then I set a goal of 5,000 steps a day. Joined a "5 Days in a Row" challenge on one of my teams. Well, now a few hundred steps was not going to cut it. I walked on the ice, I walked up and down stairs, I walked around the island in my kitchen just to get my steps in for the challenge!
Now I make 5,000 steps every day and have had 1 streak of 10,000 for 5 days! So, I decided to set up the pedometer for my personal stride length and start counting the minutes and distance that I walk each day. If I do cardio, I don't count anything but the steps. If it is a strength day or a rest day, I put in the minutes, distance and steps! Wow, what a boost to fitness minutes that was!
But because of my little pedometer, I am back down to the weight I was before the holidays started. Because of my little pedometer, my blood sugars are under control again.
I am hooked on my little pedometer and I won't give it up! It has become a part of me.

I love mine too! My daughter got me started on one. She had a step challenge at work and the winner got 50 dollars. She won partly because she and her husband were about to go on vacation to Peru and she hiked up to Manchu Picchu. lol She still uses hers even tho the challenge is over. I'm not up to THAT many steps yet! But it is fun to keep track! emoticon

I wear one too. It helps me to park farther away in parking lots just so I can get in more steps as one example! Congrats!

Good for you! I'm finding it hard to get started with exercising. I like what you are doing and I think I will get myself a pedometer too. Keep stepping! emoticon

I am going to get a new one in the spring, but I remember the healthy addiction...FUN! When I was at work, I would use any excuse at all to go for a walk...even taking the trash out. (worked at a preschool)
So glad you love it!

I have only tried cheapy ones that re-set and don't count well, made me discouraged about the whole step counting process. Thanks for the blog, maybe I'll need to treat myself to a nicer one. Great job on hitting 10,000! emoticon

If you can't get out for your cardio steps, try out the Leslie Sansone videos at That way you can walk in your own home. :-) Plus they are fun.
