Disney Princess Half Marathon Training Week 9

This week did not turn out like I had planned! I did get in some good exercise, but it didn't even resemble my plan for the week! Oh well, a good shake-up is good for a change, right?
Monday I was really looking forward to getting in a long run, since the girls were out of school, I could stay at the gym as long as I needed. I was feeling really good, but I guess I forgot to consider the fact that I was so sick Friday and Saturday, and I might not be up to a strenuous run yet! I did get in 3.75 miles, which was better than nothing! I did make myself stay on the treadmill and walk to make it to an hour of exercise.
Tuesday should have been an ST and elliptical day, but it was warm enough to run outside, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity, since it was supposed to drop back down to below freezing that evening for who knows how long before we see above freezing! So even though it was lightly raining, I headed out the door! Since it is not a normal run day for me, and I haven't been running on consecutive days for almost a year now, I just decided I would do whatever felt comfortable and not set a time/pace/or distance goal. I ended up running for 30 minutes, I think it was an 11:46 AP. I had a few times that I had to walk a little, because some of the side roads still had some ice patches.
Wednesday I took as a rest day, because I had a lot of errands to run while Evie was at preschool and I only had 1 kiddo to lug along with me! Because of the weather, John was at work all day Thursday, so I wasn't able to make it to the gym. I really don't want to take Ethan into the childcare room until he is completely well, which he is not yet :( But I did do 20 mins of pilates, 15 mins of yoga, and then some core exercises at home. I didn't feel like I had done very much, but boy have I felt it since Friday! LOL! Made me realize how much I have been neglecting my core lately, and I need to remedy that!
I woke up early Friday morning and could not go back to sleep. We already knew the girls were on a 2 hour delay, so I decided I might as well go over to the gym and get in a run while I could! I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to do, or what I was going to be able to do. So I decided to take it slow and see how far I got. I ended up running for an hour and 50 mins and 9.25 miles! My hip started aching a little during the last 3/4-1/2 mile, but stopped as soon as I quit running, and I haven't had any pain in it since. My heel, on the other hand, has been bothering me ever since the run - ugh!
Saturday I didn't get in any formal exercise, but we did go shopping for a couple hours, at an outdoor mall, so I was walking pretty fast between stores! LOL!
This morning I decided to get over to the gym and spend an hour on the elliptical, even though Sunday's are usually my rest day. I needed to sweat out some of the salt from the mexican food and margaritas I had last night! LOL! I felt pretty good. I usually warm up, and then I go at a moderate pace for 1 song on my iPod, and then at a hard pace for 1 song. After about 25 minutes, a lady got on the machine next to me, and she was going a bit faster than my "hard" pace, so my next hard interval, I decided that I was going to keep up with her, and I did! She got off after only 15 minutes, and I told her I needed her to keep going, because I was trying to keep up with her! LOL! But it proved to myself that even though I may THINK I am pushing myself, I can always push just a little bit harder!
I didn't get any upper body ST this week, but a week away from it isn't going to hurt! I will make sure that I get it in this week. Eating was super bad this week - ugh! I REALLY need to crack down on myself! It isn't doing me any good to spend all the time in the gym if my nutrition is just going to undo all my good work! I've done pretty good so far today. I wish I could get back into the tracking habit, but I just can't seem to get it done!
My plan for this week:
Monday - 5 mile easy run
Tuesday - 1 hour elliptical and ST
Wednesday - 5 mile tempo run
Thursday - 1 hour elliptical and ST
Friday - REST
Saturday - 10 mile long run
Sunday - REST
On a personal note, John and I have decided that it's time for me to try to get back to work! 21 years ago in March, I graduated from a medical assistant program, but for some stupid reason, I never bothered to sit for the certification exam. Now I am kicking myself in the butt over it! I have not worked in any type of medical office in 13 years, which was before everything was computerized. I have found out that at least one of the hospitals around us hires coders and lets them work from home. So I have started doing my own little refresher course on coding for myself. I have also found an online advanced hospital coding course and certification exam prep that I am planning on taking. So I guess I'm kind of becoming a student again - yikes! I am hoping that I can get all this done by the time the girls are out of school, and then I can find a position this summer. Hopefully it all goes as well as I would like!
