CRUISE

I have been going at it real hard since the begining of the year. My goal...Lose 10 pounds in January. I want to be under 160 before we go on our cruise in Feb. ( I am worried about the cruise and eating and drinking and not being able to get on sparks to stay accountable)..I hope to maintain my weight while on the cruise.

Last year...We went on a cruise. Planned a particular excursion in Costa Rica where you bike ride to a place where you then white water raft...now, I have done a bike excursion before in Hawaii down the side of a volcano on paved roads so I figured this would be wonderful, beautiful, exhilarating! Mind you, I had not been exercising and was at my top weight. We had to bike UP some hills in the mud and rocks. I huffed and puffed and had to stop numerous times. My heart rate was through the roof and I almost puked! I thought I was going to die right there in Costa Rica. My husband and I were at the end of the pack. I was humiliated. Thankfully, the white water rafting made up for that awful biking experience. One day I plan to go back and bike my healthy toned rear up that mountain!

I ended up gaining 7 pounds on that 7 day cruise. I will not do that again, At the end of it I could barely fit into the clothes I brought to wear. So...this trip scares me quite a bit.

I have been eating so good and healthy, fresh fruits, veggies, steamed...fish, chicken no butter/salt...pretty clean for the most part. I haven't been hungry and exercise has left me feeling toned and tightened. All in just 3 short weeks.

I am a short gal so every pound on me looks like more...5' and 170 is way too big. I have lost 8 pounds. I hope to be 160 at this weeks weigh in. Wish me luck in the morning!

    I cruise a lot - it is our preferred vacation. To avoid weight gain, I limit my drinking (only at dinner), avoid the Lido (or whatever they are calling the deck with the big buffet) like the plague, and hit the gym every day, even if it is just to walk. If you go with a game plan, it helps you avoid all the possible pitfalls. Have fun!

    Most cruise ships also have gyms, exercise classes and a track . . . use them while on the cruise and write down all that you eat. If you see it in print it may keep your from over eating. No reason to eat differently while on a cruise . . . allow one meal to indulge and keep it under control the rest of the day. Good Luck!

    Wow you are doing GREAT this month, no matter what the scale says! As you know I have a similar challenge coming up. I'm hoping there is an internet connection at the resort, not that I want to spend anytime online (I want to soak up as much sunshine as possible while I can!!) but I do think it will help me if I try to track my food (using my phone) even if I eat and drink. Maintenance rather than weight loss is a good vacation goal.

Maybe you could think of your cruise as a "health spa cruise", the type of thing a celebrity would sign up for. So your day could involve the gym, activities like swimming and snorkeling, a massage for a treat, etc, rather than just eating, drinking and sitting by the pool. The restaurants and buffets usually have a "spa menu" and the fresh fruit is usually amazing.
