There is a young lady who walks a lot in my neighborhood. She has a black Lab who looks like my best friend black Lab of many years ago. I see her a lot in the mornings, as I am leaving for work about 7:15, walking her cute Lab. Last night, after we had had 4-5 inches of snow, I saw her walking in the dark down the unplowed street. She is slim and young and her dog is beautiful and I wish I was slim and young had a beautiful dog who loved me as much as I see this dog loves her. That is the way of a lot of Labs. And I thought about this young walking woman. She obviously has "VITALITY." What exactly is vitality? I know I don't have it. I know a lady at work who has it. Just one??? Yes, just one person at work. Hmmm....that isn't good.

Someone told me a few weeks ago that they saw an article that said that people who walk fast are usually healthier. Not sure of the truth there and I Googled it and couldn't find the article. But I do know that people who walk with assurance, a good tempo, head held high, shoulders back, LOOK healthier. I wonder what I look like when I walk.

I want vitality. How do I get it? Okay, same old thing, exercise, the right weight for my frame, eat lots of fresh fruits & veggies, drink lots of water, all those age-old health habits. Drudge..............

I recently saw an article about a new movie that just came out and is currently only showing in Portland, OR. It is not out yet on DVD. It is called Forks Over Knives. See the trailer at The movie is about how many doctors see a whole foods, plant-based diet as a primary approach to prevent and treat chronic and degenerative diseases such as diabetes, arthritis and coronary artery disease. If you read The China Study, you would have to admit that the facts are pretty convincing.

But the thought of never having a cup of hot cocoa again is not pleasant. And I tried the vegetarian lifestyle, indeed, I am a "vegetarian wanna-be," but it is darn hard. The thought of eating dead animals is really appalling to me, isn't that weird? I try not to think of my sloppy joe as being a cow at one time. And the recipe options for meatless eating is so limited. I mean how much broccoli can you eat and how many ways can you cook it?

So I want vitality. I wonder how badly I want it. Bad enough to go vegan? Bad enough to exercise twice a day instead of once? Bad enough to not eat in restaurants because I always eat too much of the wrong thing? Bad enough to change my thinking?

Well, what do you think about vitality? You think you have it? Or not? Any ideas on how to get it? Let me know!

Vitality....oh yeah...I seem to remember that feeling!!! As we age that vitality takes another form...enthusiasm is still there, zipping around slows down. We can still walk with our heads held high, we can smile as we stroll along, but the zip is dragging a bit...LOL

I think you must look at attitude. Attitude, no matter what age is the important factor.

Keep searching my are not stagnating if you are searching. Stay flexable. We each have to find our own path and even that path must change from time to time.

    Did I confuse you more????

I agree with the characteristics you say you see in people you feel are full of vitality. They appear to be full of love of life, energetic, confident and zest filled. Even enthusiastic. Agree with SHNITZIEOO that we change what we want to be different. I wish I actually had the vision of who I wanted to be!!!

Change happens when you begin to see a discrepancy between yourself now and who you want to be. See yourself as the person you want to be and it will be. Its a self fulfilling prophecy:)
