I am a woman who ran in the rain

Monday, January 17, 2011

Yesterday I ran in the rain. Not pouring rain, but nonetheless, I ran. I had awakened feeling stiff and sore, and my first thought was that a short run would help. Resisting the urge to resist the urge, I committed to action by telling Mike. And even though it was our 'rest' day (from running), I ran.

I am having some foot pain I suspect is plantar fasciitis, due to having had it in the past. But the cool thing is, I am learning my own body better. I know that I'll get some pain at the outset, but that it'll fade away - and it did. I also know that for whole... minutes at a time, I forget that I am focused upon reaching the end of the run, and it becomes a lovely rhythm of step, step, breathe. I find my gait and effort is not foremost; I look at cars going by and think: to them, I am a woman running.

I am a woman who ran in the rain.

I would go to a podiatrist about the plantar fascitis. Custom-made orthotics and stretching exercises can help prevent and alleviate. Pain is a body's way of telling you something is wrong.

You're lucky, when my plantar fasciitis starts to hurt, I can't go on, it only gets worse. If I don't stop and ice it, I end up with weeks of pain. I hate it! Right now: no pain and hoping that lasts.

the best weather i think is running while it's sprinkling but still there's sunshine. not only is it beautiful, it just feels magical.

Great job! I haven't ran in the rain or snow, but I am sure that it would be invigorating! Is that the right word? AWESOME!!

I'm not a runner, but I do walk in all sorts of weather. Rain and snow can be very enjoyable, a time of solitude and awareness.

I enjoy running in the rain. My favorite route is wooded with a pond, and I love the grayness of it. I actually ran in light snow on Saturday. Didn't know it was in the forecast, but halfway through, wouldn't you know?
