A new start for me - FOCUS!

Friday, January 14, 2011

This is me at our Christmas party - December 2010.
I am using this as a starting point - to look, feel and be better.
I am not happy with how I have been doing - good some weeks, bad others.....
I know I need to be more consistent with my exercise and with my diet.
I am a mom, so I think about my daughter the majority of the time, but I need to focus on me and give myself some "me time" to do what I need to do to make myself better.
I would like to maybe start running - but I am not sure exacting how to do that - I would love to hear how other started out and how it works for them. I know I love zumba and turbojam - so I need to make that priority as well.
I know what I need to do - and I have a plan - so now - NO EXCUSES!

I agree that you have to just find something you enjoy because you will stick with it. Also, I would suggest getting a pedometer and tracking your steps each day. Make 10,000 steps your goal each day and you will be exercising throughout the day doing things you would normally do but being more mindful of the steps you are taking. Keep track of them on our Team Page - Fit For Service so we can encourage you.

Wishing you all the best! I know you will make 2011 your year to shine, you already have the mindset and plan in place, down its just a matter of getting down to business. You can and will do it, I believe in you.

Doesn't have to be running. Walking has caused many people to lose weight. But a walking program that builds up to a mile (four times around a track or clock routes in your neighborhood with your car) then adds slow runs of 30 seconds at a time will help build stamina and endurance. Eventually you will be able to jog for longer periods and walk less. -- Lou

I've never tried the C25K, but I've heard lots of good things about it. My favorite workout right now is the Jillian Michael's Shred-It with Weights. With winter going strong here, I don't do any outside exercise, besides shoveling. I really enjoy the workouts that are On Demand's Exercise TV through my cable company. There are tons to choose from so I never get bored!

Robin, there is a group here called C25K or Couch to 5k. They have a program where you build up on your running as you go. If I remember right, it is an 8 week program that progresses on a weekly basis. It may be something of interest to you, a place to begin pursuing your running dream.

Hope you're otherwise doing well, and hold fast to that belief in NO EXCUSES!

I can't run because of my back, hip and feet (I know, I'm falling apart), but I do interval training - run for a minute, walk for two or three. I also do it on a treadmill which is softer than walking/running in the street. That might be a better option for you, or it might be a good way for you to ease into running if that's what you chose to do.

You are totally right - I have to pick something for me - I think the running thing was partly due to my husband being a 'former' runner, and that worked for him. I do enjoy the classes - like Zumba, so I think I should focus on that, and like you said - it has to be fun, or it is VERY hard to stick with.
Thanks for your input and advice!

well you very pretty in your picture.
You are right though you do need to have a little me time.
I have learned that not everyone (speaking about me) is cut out for running. I love dancing and that kind of stuff but running for me is like a chore and I don't want to think of exercise as a chore. Unless I am running competitively I am not happy with doing it.

Pick what works best for you!
