In the book I am reading "Change your brain, change your life" Dr. Amen talks about how to get rid of automatic negative thoughts (ANTs). As a person who experiences depression and anxiety, this is a life changing exercise.
1. When I notice a negative thought, I will write it down in my journal.
2. I will rewrite the thought in a positive or productive way.
3. I will recognize and squash the ANTs as much as possible!!
Making a plan to take care of the ANTs as they come will keep me from feeling overwhelmed.
