Can't Handle Another Summer With Regrets

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Well, I thought I was huge a few months ago, but I've put on weight during the holidays. I absolutely HAVE to get some weight off. I love SP and all the support I get here, but I guess I need to not wait for some big motivating moment (like I have in the past), and like Nike says, JUST DO IT!

I love all the tools on SP; the articles, blogs, friends, food and exercise trackers are awesome. I also like WW's idea of having food on a point system. I thought about joining WW online, but it's pretty expensive. And besides the point system, it has about the same tools as SP.

I am on the verge of being diabetic, so I have looked into following a diet for a full-blown diabetic. I don't like the idea of figuring out food exchanges, though. I'm too lazy I guess! I looked up a sample diabetic breakfast, and it didn't seem too bad. I think it was something like this: a piece of whole wheat toast, a 1/4 cup of egg substitute, 1/2 banana, and a small serving of cottage cheese. I may have it wrong but I think that's what it was. I could live with a breakfast like that!

The big thing for me is that although I am not a total vegetarian, I eat very little meat. I just have never cared for it much; maybe it's just the thoughts of where it came from or maybe it's the texture. For whatever reason, I just don't like it much and almost every diet I've seen has a lot of meat dishes. I do like beans so I think I might could get protein from that and the eggs, although I don't know if the egg substitutes have protein or not.

I've heard of the South Beach diet, but I'm thinking it has a lot of meat in it, although I don't know for sure.

Can anyone give me advise on the best thing to do? Every summer, when everyone else is wearing cute little shorts or Capri's, I think, "See there, if you had only started back in January you could be doing that, too." I don't want to have another summer thinking that.

Kat, I know how you are feeling right now, as I am in your same situation. I have been doing well until about November and now what a slump I feel like I am in. I myself and still trying to figure out w/ the right foods and plan so I can probably offer little advice. We can start something up together and help motivate each other and by summer we will be the ones in the cute capri pants!

Low carb works better for me. I have done South Beach and it works for me. There is a Phase I which is for 14 days.....no fruits or grains. Then you go on to Phase II where you add in fruits and whold grains. You just do it slowly so you can determine what your body tolerates better. I can eat fruit, but if I eat to many whole grains it stalls the weight loss, but everyone is different.

Good luck with whatever you try to do.

The holidays are very rough on me as well Kat, I also put on a few pounds and the winter blues do not help me and wanting to work out. But I agree with Jen, once you get started it will be easier. I used to be on weight watchers and after Losing 30 plus pounds I found spark . I loved W.W but it got to be too expensive and spark helps you do the same thing without the high price to pay. One thing I am going to do is put a picture of myself at my heaviest on the fridge and that will remind me of what I don't want to go back to. Lets do this Kat! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I know emoticon Like you've said before.....JUST DO IT!!! I know it may seem tough to get started and stick with it, but the one thing I've found out is once I've started, it's so much easier to do and keep doing! Since I've started eating more fruits and veggies, as well as other healthy foods, I've found that I'm not craving or wanting the junk!!
I agree with Ms. Eleni, you will find out what works best for you and will find that it's something you wanna do! For me, I have found that watching my carbs and late night eating has really helped me! If you have questions about the South Beach diet, just ask Barb from the team, as I know she's done it and has had much success!
Whatever you choose to do, I'm here to support you in any way that I can! I know you can do this and you will succeed! I Love You and look forward to a great year together! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
