Foot update

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Today was my Doctor's visit. Well we all know I have not been behaving because with all of this white stuff emoticon we have been having emoticon I am almost afraid to utter the word because it will just start falling. They are saying 10-15 inches between tonight and tomorrow.

I digress. I have been shoveling snow and I am not supposed to be doing that. Duh! Any one with a brain could figure that out but did I pay attention? NOPE! It seems I may have rolled my foot the last time I was out shoveling . The top of the foot is swollen as well as the side of the ankle and that was 8 AM this morning so just imagine what it is like by the end of the day. The X Ray did not show any further brake of my foot which was a good thing. However it did not show enough healing to warrant my graduating from the "Boot" to a good supportive sneaker. It has been 7 weeks since I broke it and since I did not "behave' I have to wear this heavy contraption for another 4 weeks till my next visit.

The doctor knew I would probably be out shoveling again with this major storm hitting today into tomorrow emoticon so he told me to be extra careful. When I am done I am to come inside and elevate foot with an ice pack 20 minutes on and 40 minutes off. He would prefer I snag some neighborhood kids to shovel but in my neighborhood they are far and few between and they have no idea what it means to make a little money on the side. They would rather play their video games or go snow boarding. Snow shoveling is not up their on their lists of things to do.

We'll see. Translation I will be out there shoveling.

I asked him the diabetes question as a few of you inquired along with my Mother. Yes diabetes does play a factor in the healing time. However he does not feel that is an issue in my case. He says I am pretty much on schedule due to my age and weight even with my snow shoveling escapades. I am just paying the price by not getting to graduate to a sneaker yet. emoticon I deserved it. I made the choice.

Don't say it! I know emoticon shoveling.

Do the best you can. I know what it's like not to have anyone around to help you shovel. Just try to take it easy and elevate that foot as much as possible.

I tell DH "who" is going to be out in this walking on your shoveled walk anyway? And if they are out they need the protection of the snow on the ground.

Luckily for us, our young neighbor voluntarily does it with a snowblower, now adays.

A counselor says "You don't have to be smart to get along in the world, just dont do the dumb things.

Good grief... time to hire someone to shovel for ya. I'm surprised none of the neighbors aren't helping out when they look out the window and see you shoveling with a cast on your foot!

OK healthy lifestyle includes shoveling snow, but not at the expense of healing your foot!! Take care!

You are my mentor. I have a question for you? What if you lived on a tropical island and I had a broken foot and snow storms? What would you write me?

I totally feel your pain!! I suffered a stress fracture to my left foot the beginning of November; fracture did not show up in any xrays; sent to nuclear medicine for a scan with dyes (don't know what that's called). YEP! Stress fracture--in boot for 5 weeks. I was so happy to get out of it about a week ago. I am wearing supportive sneakers but as soon as I take off the shoe for longer than 10 minutes or so my foot starts hurting again. AARRGG!!! I hate to ask the doctor 'cause I DON'T want the boot again. Take care and I hope you're out of it soon.

Be very careful while out shoveling snow. No more setbacks! Glad to hear you didn't do any further damage, though.

Reaping what you've sewn, heh? That's how it works! Sounds funny he'd tell you to ice it after shoveling! Isn't it frozen already? Just take it easy, kid!
